“This is so ridiculous! Why couldn’t you have just told me from the beginning?” I yelled at Drew. We were back in our bungalow, packing to leave.
“I told you why.” He spoke softly. His eyes had been downcast since we left the bar. Justin couldn’t have left faster after my outburst.
“That’s really no excuse.” I said angrily. “I can’t believe you lied to me. How long have you known?”
“Since the day we left, that’s the day he got out of jail. If I didn’t get you away from there, I knew he would find you. Do you know what your father does or did before he was sent to jail?” He asked now looking me in the eyes.
“H-he was a business man.” I said, now a little unsure. That’s what I have always been told, but I really wasn’t ever sure.
“He was a mobster, maybe one of the strongest in the state. He killed people for a living, he organized bombings and crimes.” Drew said, there was no emotion in his voice. I stood there with my mouth hanging open. My father killed people? I could see that….I trailed off in my mind. There were no words I could form, I was stunned.
“He has a lot of men working for him; we couldn’t really trust anyone and I knew this would be the safest place for you.” Drew said angrily. “I’m sorry I kept it from you, but it was for the best. Now we need to hurry and pack, Justin will be waiting for us.” I looked at Drew a little upset. He’s never raised his voice at me, never shown this side of him to me. I felt like total $hit right now, but I didn’t know. He lied to me and I didn’t like that one bit. I told him everything; I never asked anything of him besides his honesty. He hid the most important thing to me. How could I accept that?
We were both silent when we left the bungalow and as we made our way towards the docks where Justin was waiting with a boat to take us to the airport on the other island. I didn’t like the silence between us, and I really didn’t want to end this vacation on a bad note. Before we boarded the boat, I grabbed Drew’s face and kissed him hard. The least I could do was thank him for bringing me here, it was the best days of my life.
When I pulled away, Drew looked at me surprised. “What was that for?” He asked breathlessly.
“That was a thank you for the best vacation I’ve ever had.” I told him before kissing him again quickly. I let him go and got on the boat. Justin screwed up his face in disgust which made me smirk. What a baby. I thought.
Drew got on and wrapped his arms around me as we started our way back to the island. “Where will we be going from there?” I asked no one in particular.
“We were thinking France.” Justin said smiling.
I squealed and yelled, “Seriously? Did you plan that, Drew because I’ve always told you I want to go there?”
Drew smiled and said, “Not me, Justin planned it. He has some friends there that we can trust. You will be safe there.”
I looked over at Justin and threw my arms around him. “You are amazing, Justin.”
“Jeez, I know you love me, you don’t have to throw yourself all over me.” He said smirking.
“As if.” I said kissing Drew on the lips. “This is my guy.” I snuggled up against Drew and closed my eyes happily. We made our way to the island shortly after, but I didn’t have any time to enjoy it. We were ushered onto the plane quickly. As soon as we were on, I jumped on the comfy couch that was there the last time. I closed my eyes and relaxed. I couldn’t wait to go to France, I’ve always been fascinated by the language, it was so romantic to me.
