Chapter 11
When you're out with Nate Archibald at Central Park just talking like friends do, people seem to always make a big issue about it. Nate has a girlfriend, cool. So that means we're not seeing each other, we're just friends but some people can't seem to get that.
Nate and I are walking through the Central park beside each other. The air is chilly and my nose is starting to get stuffy.
"So what's the problem, Nate? You wanted to go somewhere quiet and private, here we are" I say as I stop walking and give him my full attention.
"I just need someone to talk to and you're the perfect person. I went to Serena but then things got weird and I left." He says and sits down on a bench.
"What's wrong?" I ask as I sit down beside him.
"I was going through my dad's belongings and found a bag of cocaine" Nate says and looks at me.
"Oh. Maybe it was sugar for when he's out and he gets coffee, you know so he can put the sugar in." I say and Nate smiles
"You're so optimistic" Nate chuckles
"Did you taste it?" I ask
"Lena, I know what cocaine looks like. I don't need to taste it, trust me. " He says
"Why would your dad have drugs anyway?" I inquire.
"He's been stressing lately but I think he's been buying drugs for a while. I never thought my dad could do something like this" Nate says and looks disappointed.
"I know drugs are bad, really bad. I'm sure there's an explanation for it, there always is. Don't stress about this too much, okay?" I say and he nods.
"You think I should confront him?" He asks
"Do what you think feels right, if confronting him feels like the best thing then do it. I'm sure if you dispose of the cocaine he'll just buy another so talk to him. Father to son." I answer him.
"I'm kind of afraid of what he'll say" Nate says
"Sure it might be scary, not everything is easy especially when drugs are involved." I say and place my hand on his shoulder for comfort.
"How do you know so much?" He asks
"I've been through a lot of things" I answer and look down at my feet. Liam comes to mind once again.
"Don't worry you have me" He says with a small smile and wraps his arm around me.
"I'm glad I do" I say and return a smile "I think we should go" I add
"Yeah, we have a ball to get to" Nate says as we stand up.
"Oh, um I don't think I'm going" I say and kick a small pebble that's on the ground.
"What? Why not?" Nate asks as he furrows his eyebrows at me.
"Well I don't have a date or a dress and Blair doesn't like me. I also don't feel like going to a fairy tale ball when my life is nowhere close to a fairy tale" I answer and Nate laughs
"If I could I would go with you. You could still get a dress and mask, you don't need to go with someone. Go by yourself, no one will know who you are anyway but if you do go you need to find me" He smiles
"We'll see what happens" I say and give him a small smile.
"I'll see you later, tonight. I have to go now but thank you, Lena. You're a great friend, thank you for listening to my problem" Nate says wholeheartedly.
