Another day started by puking. I went to work, and everything was normal until the end of class, when Ella walked up to my desk.
"Can I ask you something, Miss Beale?" She asked.
"Yeah sure. What is it?" I said.
"It's sort of a personal question." She added.
I thought for a second, but I knew I could trust Ella.
"Ask away!" I said.
"Were you in an a cappella group when you were in college? The Barden Bellas?" She asked.
"Yes, I was." I said.
"I watch your performances all the time on YouTube. I can't believe you're the Chloe Beale!" She said excitedly.
Did I really have a fan? Was this a dream?
"I love to sing, but I don't have a voice coach. Will you be my voice coach?" She asked.
"Sure! Are you going to the dance tonight?" I asked her.
"Yes."
"I'll talk to your mom then!" I said, and she left the room.
Friday meant I had to monitor lunch. Great. I walked down the hallway and into the lunchroom. There, Ella was sitting with her friends. Every week this is what I looked forward to. Stupid I know, but it made me happy. She reminded me of myself when I was younger.
"Miss Beale?" I heard a voice ask.
"Yes." I said and turned to face the voice, which was coming from Ella.
"I wanted to say thank you." Ella said.
"You're welcome, I'm actually really excited." I said.
We talked for a while, and the rest of the school day went by faster than expected.
Now I had to deal with the dance, which I was definitely not excited to attend for two reasons. One- it's a glow in the dark dance, so it will be dark and I won't be able to see. Two- I didn't want to spend more time with those bratty kids more than I had to.
I went home and got ready to leave for the dance. I decided to wear one of my favorite dresses, my hair in a pony tail and some high heels in an attempt to look taller.
When I got there I met Ella's mother, who had also seen my a cappella group perform.
As more people showed up, I decided to hang out at the back wall and make sure nobody was misbehaving.
