It was now almost thanksgiving.
It was only in three more days, and I know that it was going to be different with Jasmine living with us this year.
However, there was only one flaw.
The Monday morning before school started, Jasmine woke up with a bad cough.
"You okay Jas?" I asked her, patting her back to help her feel better. She kept containing to cough but attempted to nod her head yes in response as she did so. That didn't make me believe her.
My mom came in to discover what was going on.
"Oh my gosh Jasmine are you okay?" She fretted, as she was still coughing profusely. My mom went to go get a glass of water for Jasmine then returned with it, giving Jasmine the glass of water. She took a sip of it but coughed a couple times afterwards.
Once she stopped coughing, she set her glass of water down.
"You okay Jasmine?" I asked her, rubbing her back to comfort her.
"Yeah, my throat is just sore that's all." She admitted, speaking a last. Her voice was horse and not bubbly like it usually was.
"Jasmine, dear, you don't sound right either! I think we should call a doctor, cause I never heard coughing as bad as that before!" My mom confessed, worried about Jasmine.
"Mom, may I skip school too? I want to just to make sure Jasmine is fine." I told her. Not to mention it was because I didn't feel like going to class in general.
"Sure honey. Let me call the school and inform them why you guys won't be there today." My mom says, heading out of our room.
"I'm sorry your throat Jas." I kept apologizing over and over sympathetically. Yet, she still remained to be the humble, reserved girl she always was who was in a cheerful state at all times.
"It's okay." She rasped out, her voice gravelly still. I felt so bad for her.
My mom came back a few minutes later, and told us we were going to the doctors at 9:30 this morning.
Almost two more hours, it being 7:35 now.
:::
Mom drove us to the hospital, and we were waiting patiently in the doctor office. My mom was signing the papers for Jasmine-whom was still coughing at times. I patted her back, transitioning into rubbing it to help comfort her. She tried to stop coughing as I was doing so.
About ten minutes later,  the doctor had finally came.
"Jasmine Clayton?" She called her name, her eyes locating where Jasmine was. Once Jasmine stood up, her eyes finally met with Jasmine.
The doctor appeared to be a bit young for her age, possibly in her early twenties. She had black hair and was a bit tan; her lips were sealed in burgundy colored lipstick, and her eyes were covered in brown eyeshadow to match the color of her eyes. She had eyeliner and mascara on too.
When we entered a room, the doctor ordered Jasmine to sit on the gurney. She did as ordered and I stood next to her.
"You may want to sit down next to Mrs. Hunter. Are you her brother?" She asked me. Her voice consisted of a fluent Hispanic accent; I could tell as she rolled her "r's" in every word she was saying. But she did good at speaking English.
"No, I'm her boyfriend. That's why I'm standing next to her." I responded, and she smiled widely.
"Aww. But unfortunately, so that way you don't get sick either, I'm going to have to ask you to sit down next to Mrs. Hunter. Alright?" I nodded in response and sat down next to my mom. Jasmine glanced down at me, as she was getting checked up.
"Anyways, I'm Ms. Lopez, your doctor for today," she introduced,"I'm just going to do some check ups and figure out what's wrong with you."
She did lots of methods for checking on Jasmine; she stuck a Popsicle in Jasmine's mouth.(not to mention I hated when they do that) She checked her ears and her mouth to see her throat with a flashlight, and checked her heartbeats.
"Well, I did notice that there was some red in the back of your throat, and you seem to be having a stuffy nose I noticed too. So I'll be right back." She promised, and took her form filled with Jasmine's information on it. I stood back up and met with Jasmine, who still remained on the bed.
"You feeling okay?" I asked her, getting a hold of her hand.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I think it's a cold." Jasmine answered.
"Well, I'm going to do everything I can to make sure you'll feel better. I don't want you to stay in a hospital." I said to her. And it was for a major reason.
Before she could respond, the doctor came in and I headed back to my seat.
"Okay, here are the results. You have bad tonsils Jasmine. We can remove them today if you'd like," The doctor offered, handing my mom the sheet of paper with the results on it,"but you'll have to probably stay in the hospital for a couple days so your throat can heal."
"Jasmine can't do that! I'm sorry but I do not trust hospitals." I objected to that. The doctor furrowed her eyebrow in confusion.
"Why not?"
"You've got to have read the article! Where the patient disappears right before the doctor treats them. I don't want Jasmine to disappear!" I pointed out, referring to the article I read online while I was in the computer lab at school.
"That's not going to happen." The doctor declined, but I didn't budge my opinion. I still believed it.
"Well in that case I'm going to stay by Jas at all times." I insisted, going to her and getting a hold of her hand.
"Thank you Shawn, although I'm not  worried about the boy in the article you told us about." Jasmine responded.
"Don't believe it Jasmine. You'll be okay, and I know you will." My mom went up to her and gave her a hug to comfort her.
"Alright, Jasmine, this tonsils surgery is going to take a while, so I suggest you get some rest. Meanwhile, you guys should wait and wake her up when it's time." The doctor ordered. Before she left the room she made sure everything was understood. Which it was.
"Well, I am feeling a little tired." Jasmine stated, as she sinks down into her hospital bed. I helped cover her up and propped her pillow, to make sure she was comfortable.
"Thank you Shawn." She acknowledges, and I nodded in response. My mom went over to her and kissed her on the forehead, and stroked her hair.
"We'll be right here with you sweetie." My mom promised her. Jasmine just smiled slyly. Jasmine began to close her eyes, leaned her head on my shoulder, and fell asleep.

Jasmine
When I woke up, I saw no one was in the room. I noticed I was now in a hospital gown, and had forgotten about getting my tonsils out for a moment.
I admit, I was a little sincere about getting my tonsils taken out. What if it wasn't a success?
The only pro to this was eating all the soft food I would get. Suddenly, the door opened, revealing Shawn. Once he noticed I was awake, he smiled.
Following him was Topanga and Cory, who repeated the same gestures.
"Oh good! You're awake. It's time for your tonsils to be taken out Jas." Shawn informed, getting a hold of my hand then sitting on my bed a little beside me.
"There won't be anything bad to this right?" I asked the three of them, and Topanga chuckled.
"No, it'll be okay. I got my tonsils taken out when I was younger and it was great! I got all the soft served food I could get for two weeks." Topanga recalled.
"Plus I'll be by your side." Shawn promised me.
I held on to his hand, and the doctor with a few nurses came in holding on a pleasant, genuine smile.
"Ready for your tonsils Jasmine?"
I nodded sheepishly, and the nurses got the gurney ready. Like Shawn promised, he was at my side holding onto my arm.
"We'll be right here waiting for you Jasmine!" Topanga called over.
"You'll do great!" Cory added.
The doctors later took me to the emergency room, applying me to the set ups.
And Shawn?
He still remained at my side like he promised.
"You'll do okay Jasmine." Shawn says, his voice fading. The doctors had covered my mouth with one of those scented masks. Not to mention it smelled of a watermelon, fruit like fragrance. And suddenly, my eyes shut and all I could view was pitch black.
It's time.

I had stood by Jasmine's side throughout the whole thing. The turn out was a success. All I had to do was wait for Jasmine to wake up, which should be anytime now.
"She looks so cute when she is asleep." My mom says. My dad had come in and was dropped off by my uncle mike earlier.
"She does." I agreed. Since my uncle Mike had dropped off my dad, he came to get a look at Jasmine due to the fact he hasn't met her.
"You did great Shawny." He said padding my back. I just smiled and waited for her to wake up.
About a few minutes later, her eyes opened slowly.
"You're awake." I whispered. We all headed over to her, checking on how she was feeling.
"I'm pretty okay. Did they take my tonsils out already?" She wondered. Her voice was a little clearer then it was this morning, but it was slightly raspy too.
"Yes they did," I answered simply,"I'll be right back."
I headed out to go get her some ice cream. I noticed that they had her favorite flavored ice cream, which was cookies n'cream.
I headed back in, and my mom saw that I had the ice cream which caused her to smile.
"Ice cream?" Jasmine says, happy.
I went over to her and sat in front of her.
"Yep. It's yours. I thought it would help your throat a little."
"And my favorite flavor too? Thank you Shawn." She was about to take it from me, but I didn't give it to her.
"But I am feeding it to you." I interrupted her from what she was doing, and smirked when I said that. She just smiled again and I took a spoonful of ice cream and fed her scoops.
Later on Topanga and Cory came in again and saw what I was doing.
"We will leave you four alone." My mom decides, then her, dad, and uncle mike all went out of the room.
"I see you're having fun with the ice cream there." Topanga noted, sitting in the chairs beside us.
"You feeling okay Jasmine?" Cory asked.
"Wonderful now that I got ice cream." Jasmine says making us laugh.
"Well, the doctor did tell us after your tonsils were taken out, you could come home tomorrow! She says to try your best to heal, and eat soft food." I informed her, and she nodded letting me know she understood.
After she ate all the ice cream, I decided to rest with her. Sadly she still had to spend the night since the doctors had to come in to check up on her. Topanga and Cory left eventually, then my parents later came in to make sure we'd be okay in here by ourselves.
"Yeah, it'll be okay. Really. I'm going to be with Jas." I reminded them, while I held Jasmine who had her arms wrapped around my chest.
"Alright, get some good sleep then. We'll be back in the morning." My mom says.
"Good night." My dad spoke after, then they left the door with a quiet shut since Jasmine was sleeping.
I didn't even bother letting go of Jasmine. She seemed so peaceful when she was resting in my arms.
I was so proud of how well she did during her tonsil surgery today. I knew she would make it! But with the thing I had found out about the boy along with the article, I made sure she was okay at all times just in case it was true.
