When I came home later last night yesterday, I pretended everything was okay. I didn't like when people saw me upset.
"Did you see Shawn and everyone?" she asked, mainly suspicious about seeing Shawn. I nodded my head in response, with a fake smile worn on my face like a mask. Inside I was betrayed and broken. It's like someone purposely tore off my wings like a butterfly.
When it was the first day of Junior year, my aunt made breakfast.
"Do you want some breakfast Jasmine?"
"Uh, I'm not hungry. I wanna save my appetite for the school lunch." I informed her. She furrowed an eyebrow.
"Jasmine Grace Clayton, you never turn down my homemade blueberry muffins. What's going on? You have been in your room for the past few days. Topanga called and everything yet you didn't pick up. Is everything really okay?"
I had to tell her the truth sometime, right?
I began to tear up, beginning to cry.
"Shawn cheated on me."
The words was all I could make out to her, but she understood. Right away, she pulled me in a hug, embracing it.
"Oh honey, I am so sorry. I didn't know." She comforted me by making it to where I was hugging her chest, her head leaning on mine. She pulled away from me to speak to me with words of condolences.
"You know what, wipe that sad look off your face. You are a stunning and intelligent girl. Anyone would be lucky to have you. Look at you," she pointed out, referencing to the outfit I was wearing,"Shawn is missing out on someone like you. You're beautiful."
I couldn't help but smile.
"Thank you. I should be going though."
She patted me on the shoulder, and handed me a muffin.
"Take this on the way there. Smile today."
:::
My aunt was right. Shawn was missing out on me. I would just avoid him today. That's right.
Avoid him.
I was dressed in a cute outfit today. I was dressed in a white laced shirt, with dark jean shorts with flats. I still had his belongings at my house I needed to return. I wasn't sure how yet.
When making it to my locker, a couple guys whistled and were in awe of my presence. I ignored it, not taking interest in any of them. At my lockers stood Cory and Topanga, but no sign of Shawn.
"Jas, are you okay?" She asked me, concerned as I was focused on rotating my given locker combination.
"Yeah," I opened my locker successfully, putting my books in them shutting it with a smile on my face as I glanced at her,"why wouldn't I be?"
"Look, I know you're hurting and I'm just making sure everything is okay." She responded.
"I'm okay Topanga. Don't worry about it, okay?"
Suddenly I turned around only to face Shawn, who's eyes widened. We were both speechless.
Avoiding him, I rushed to Turner's room. He didn't follow me or anything. It's like we didn't know each other at all anymore.
I wonder if Topanga scolded him or if he was acting hidden like that so that's why he was pansy. I didn't care, I wasn't speaking to him.
I sat in my usual seat, which was next to Shawn mostly. I'm gunna have to sit here, since all of them were taken.
Or maybe not. I decided to sit somewhere else, which was next to Topanga's seat. That should work. No one came at all, so.
When she walked in, her expression beheld distraught. I knew she wanted to say something, but I wasn't going to speak. I just wanted this class over with.
When the bell rang, everyone was in class. Mr. Turner was in the home room with a different haircut. His hair was shorter, which was unusual since I'm so used to seeing him with shoulder length hair.
I longed for him to not say my name for the attendance. But I knew inside he was.
"Clayton. Welcome back." He spoke with a smile. I didn't look up or anything, but in the corner of my eye I saw him grin at the sight of me.
Suddenly, a tap on the back of my shoulder scared me, and I spun around to expect Shawn standing there. But I was wrong.
There stood a tall, muscular jock with a letterman's jacket on. It was his seat, wasn't it?
"That's my seat."
Figures.
"Oh. I'm sorry." I was flushed and my face began to burn with embarrassment. I headed over to my original, dreadful seat. I didn't glance at Shawn at all.
Mr. Turner continued the class by assigning us a book assignment; it was The Tale of Two Lovers.
Of course. Associated with my problem as of right now. I didn't shoot Shawn one glance but I could feel him staring at me. I wanted the bell to just ring right now, so I could get out of here and never see him again. I watched the clock as it ticked.
Ding.
It was time to go. I overlapped my bag, and tried to scurry along to my next class but I was paused by a tap on my shoulder.
"Don't talk to me Shawn." I spun around to find someone else behind me. It was that guy again.
"Oh, I'm not Shawn." He gritted his teeth.
"Sorry about my outburst." I apologized but he accepted it.
"Don't be. You're Jasmine, right?"
"Yeah, I am. Who are you?"
"The names Evan. I find you attractive, and extremely beautiful. I don't know if you're single or anything, but I was wondering if you'd like to go out on a date sometime?"
He wanted to go out with me. Too soon.
"Evan, I just got out of this relationship and I'm taking it hard-"
Suddenly I found Shawn heading over towards the lockers to kiss that same girl from last night again. This made me changed my mind.
"Actually, I'll go out with you, Evan." I decided.
"Really? Are you sure? I don't wanna rush you or anything."
"It's fine. I'll see you at Chubbie's tonight."
I left him with a kiss on the cheek, taking him by surprise.
"Alright then!"
:::
When lunch came, I sat with Topanga and found Dawn alongside Trinie.
"You're back!" They both exclaimed in excitement. They sat up to welcome me with a hug at the same time. After they let me go, Topanga and I looked at each other.
"You okay Jasmine?" She whispered to me.
"Yeah. I'm perfectly fine. I actually have something to tell you." I began to address her. I couldn't tell her since I was interrupted with one peck on my neck.
I winced at it for some reason but I turned around to find Evan from behind me. A couple of his jock friends were near him as well, grinning cheerily and acting dumb founded.
"Hey, I'll pick you up at 5:00 tonight. Is that okay?"
"Yeah, why so early though?"
"I have a football game tonight, and I kind of wanted you to go."
"Sure Evan."
"Thanks, love." He kissed me on the cheek and left our table. Followed by that was a confused Topanga.
"What was that?" She demands me.
"That was what I was going to tell you." I instigated.
"So you're going out with Evan? Evan Drew?"
"Yeah. He's cute." I admitted to her.
"And what about you and Shawn? You can't hold a grudge against him. You guys haven't even officially broken up yet." She reminded me.
"I know," I stopped briefly as I picked at the rubber macaroni and cheese I despised,"i just don't wanna talk to him right now. I'm still angry with him for what he did Topanga."
She rubbed my shoulder in comfort.
"I know. He knows you saw him. Cory talked to him about it after first hour."
I didn't say anything else, just blankly starring into my food. It was disgusting. This I did not miss.
The bell rang which meant it was sixth hour, then the last hour afterwards.
I happened to have Shawn in both hours, so that meant I had to see him.
Great.
But he didn't speak to me, so it was pleasing. At least I would have something to take my mind off of it. That was the good part.
