◇بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم◇
" (Ibrahim prayed): "O my Lord! Grant me a Righteous Son."
(In answer to the prayer) We gave him the good news of a Gentle (Clement) son.
When the boy reached the age to work with him, (one day) Ibrahim said to him, "O my son! I have dreamt that I am sacrificing you!. Now tell me what you think of it."
He said, "O my father! Do as you are being commanded. You will find me if Allah so Wills, of the patient".
So when the two had submitted themselves (to Allah), and Ibrahim had laid his son down on his brow (for sacrifice), We called out: "O Ibrahim! You have indeed fulfilled your vision!"
Thus do We reward the righteous.
This was indeed a manifest trial.
And we ransomed his son for a Great Sacrifice (by substituting a ram for the sacrifice), and left for him (Ibrahim) praise among generations (to come) in later times.
'Peace and Salutations to Ibrahim.'
Thus do we reward the righteous! Indeed, he was one of our believing servants. "
[ Quran 37:100-111 ]Allah Almighty, through this great trial only wanted to test Ibrahim (as) and He (as) succeeded in that test.
Allah liked the sacrifice of Ibrahim (as) and the obedience of his dear son Ismail (as) so much so that Islam made it compulsory for Muslims (who can afford) to slaughter Halal animals on the 10th of dhul hijjah.
Each year Muslims around the globe celebrate Eid Ul Adha and remember the grand sacrifice of Ibrahim (as) while making a pledge to submit their wills completely to the Will of Allah Almighty.* Eid ul Adha is a reminder for all Muslims that they should be ready to sacrifice anything for Allah. As after all everything we have today is the blessing of Allah, and if He takes it back from us, we should happily give it.
* Another thing that must be learnt from this sacrifice made on the day of great happiness for Ummah is that one should not take this as a mere festival.
It has a very strong message for us, and that is Sharing.
As i often say, Sharing is Caring :)
Allah Almighty orders us that the meat of the sacrifice should be divided into three parts, one for the relatives, second for the poor and the third one for the person who has made the sacrifice.
The needy people who are deprived and are not able to afford meat, through this festival they get to enjoy good food, and this is again a great purpose of this festival. So, We Muslims must ensure that each and every needy around us does get the meat. Instead of filling our refrigerators and freezers we must distribute the meat among the deserving people for this is the real spirit of Islam and a major cause of this festival.
May Allah(swt) accept all of our good deeds. Ameen
