Lucys pov

We were escaping. And tonight. I whispered to maddy what we were going to do.
'So, we pack rucksacks, food, water, essentials, then tonight when everyone is asleep we will sneak out your window, jump and try to land on the trampoline and then get the bus half wat to dan and phils, and walk the rest. We can find mark and everyone else from there. They are the closest and i know where they live. Is that ok?' I asked at maddys concerned face.
'Yeah, its just, leaving mum and Hailey again. we dont even know if we will find them?! I mean, what if-- What if James has gone after them? He is mad... insane even. Im sorry Lucy. I don't know.. '
'Hey hey hey. shhh. I know how you feel leaving everyone again. But we will be back. It will be worth it right? Seeing Mark and Dan? You can get marks phone number. I will protect you from james... I promise.' I said and cuddled maddy. She felt so small and young. It reminded me of her first day of Primary school when I protected her, showed her around and gave her a hug, just like this. She was scared of big James because he was taller than her, but i will protect her, i did then and i will now.

An hour later and we were ready. We had our bags and money. I had put my hair in a ponytail and i had french plaited maddys. She had skinny jeans and a hoodie on and i still had my dungarees on. I gently pushed maddys window partly open. I turned to look at maddy, once more. She sighed and nodded. I climbed onto the window sill and aimed my feet slightly towards the trampoline. I took a deep breath and pushed off the window. I landed on the trampoline, surprisingly! I bounced and steadied myself. I climbed down and put my arms out. Maddys chucked my bag down first. I caught it and put it on the ground. Maddys bag soon came tumbling down. I grabbed it and placed it next to mine. A couple of seconds later and maddy was stood next to me. I saw she had pulled her window shut behind her. We grabbed our bags and crept through her massive garden. We eventually got to the fence and maddy unlocked the gate. We went through, onto the street, and locked the gate behind us. I felt for maddys hand and held it. We walked casually along the path, past all the deserted shops. A couple of street lamps were on. Every now and then we would hear a swooshing sort of noise and maddy would tighten her grip. When we looked behind us, no one was there. After about ten minutes we had walked to the nearest bus stop. We checked the times at which the bus left and the next bus would arrive at 1:45 am. We had twenty minutes. We sat in the bus shelter and counted out our money. We heard the swooshing sound again and i stood up but no one was there, of course. At 1:40 a bus pulled infront of us and we clambered on. We paid the driver and sat near the back. I was in the window seat and maddy the aisle. There was one man with a hood up who was sat near the front and someone got on after us and sat a couple of seats infront of us. We waited 5 minutes before the bus engine started and we were on the way to phil. I couldn't take my mind off him. It took about 35 minutes to get there and we still had another 15 to walk. We said thank you to the driver and he grunted back. We stepped down off the bus and carried on our journey. We were about 10 minutes away when we heard the swooshing sound again. When i looked this time, there was someone there. The man in the cloak from the bus. We pretend like he wasn't there but after a minute or two he was right behind us. Maddy took a sudden right and i followed her down an alleyway. We turned and he had followed us. This time he had someone else with him.
'Um...are you...do you...im sorry, do we know you?' I asked and the man lifted down his hood. James! I rolled my eyes.
'Great. F*ck OFF James! You have messed with us since we were four.. FOUR! Get a life" i yelled, grabbed Maddys wrist and began to walk off with her. I promised i would keep her safe. And i will. She stopped so turned. James had her wrist too and had just said something to her and she looked scared. Suddenly, without warning, he punched her in the eye, sending her to the ground, I screamed and ran to her, but he gave me a black eye and another man grabbed me and held me back. James continued to punch and kick her whilst yelling about how he never finished his date with me because of her, how he failed school because of her. And lots of things. I could tell she couldn't hear him and i was crying and screaming. I failed. I had promised to keep her safe. Suddenly a tall dark man came out of nowhere and tackled him to the ground.
'RUN!' He yelled. He was the man who helped us from before. I pulled maddy up and ran, her legs slightly dragging behind. We were five minutes from Phils if we ran.

'Can you get onto my back?' I asked quickly and she slowly and clearly in pain nodded.  I bent a little and she used the last of her energy to climb onto me. I grabbed her under her legs and she slowly passed out. I carried her slowly for about 8 minutes. I was exhausted by that time. I saw a bench and dragged myself over to it. I slowly placed maddy on it and sat next to her. A second later and she was awake. I sat talking to her for a minute. We had to get to phils now. It couldn't be that far now. I helped maddy into a standing position and put her arm over my shoulder. I helped her hobble along. A minute later and i recognised their flat. I gasped and dragged maddy over to it. I let her lean against the wall while i rang the bell. It took a moment but dan opened the front door.
'Dan! Thank goodness, your alive!' I cried.
'Lucy, you don't know how much this'll mean to phil. Maddy!' He sighed and helped me carry her up to their floor. He unlocked the door and we lay maddy on the sofa. Dan called for phil and slowly a figure walked towards us. He was barely recognisable. His hair was messy and greasy, his eyes seemed a brighter blue and he seemed paler than usual. His eyes were underlined with black, looking a bit like a panda. He gasped and stood in the doorway, shocked. I felt tears prickling at my eyes. I ran over to him and he wrapped his arms around me tightly. I felt his chin rest on my head. I took a step back to look at him.
'Phil...whats happened?' I gasped and he just shook his head.
'Do you...do you still...li..like m..me?' He whimpered. I looked up into his sea blue eyes. I felt my hands hold his.
'I will always like you.' I said and he gave a wide grin. I giggled back and he pulled me closer to him. Our lips met and they were soft and so perfect. His breath was surprisingly minty clean. It was hard to break away. I just wanted him to hold me close forever. I broke away and we turned to look at maddy. She was loosing conciousness
'Should we ring an ambulance? ' Dan asked.
'NO! No ambulance...i...m...fine!' She insisted before her head banged back on the pillow and her neck was in an awkward position. I went over to her and gently pulled her head straight. I put her limp hand over her chest and pulled her legs together.
'So graceful maddy. Honestly.' I sighed and rolled my eyes.
'So what happened to you two, weve been so worried!?' Dan asked and i quickly explained about james and what he had done to us and then how we had gotten home and then escaped and then maddy was beaten up and then we got to theirs. I then asked the same question.
'We were taken by an ambulance and then brought home and we were worried and phil hasn't eaten for the last day and we've been interview loads and been on the telly loads and we wanted to find everyone else but in phils state...he wasn't up to it.' Dan explained. I nodded and maddy kept drifting to and from conscienceness.
'Mark called and is meant to be meeting us, just down the next town. Maddy would want to come, right?' Dan asked and i nodded for her. We managed to get maddy down the stairs and into their car. I sat in the back with maddy and phil sat in the passager seat whilst dan drove. Maddy leant on me during the ride. We managed to get her out the car and into a building. We left the rucksacks at the flat, so there was less to carry. We carried her through a door and into this very clean and tidy building. It had only five rooms. One of which was a hospital. We lay maddy down on the bed and bandaged her arm up. We put plasters on her cuts and cream on her bruises. Phil gently wiped my cut down my face with a wipe and then placed kisses all along it. I smiled and kissed his cheek. His cheeks went red.
'So what do we do now?' I asked.
'We wait.' Dan said
