Normal POV

As Merlin,Arthur,The Camelotian and Aratheian Knights rode through the woods of Camelot, the young king of Camelot was to perplexed to how Merlin and the visiting knights were bonding as if they knew each other their entire lives and have just reconnected after so long. He felt agitated and annoyed. All he could ponder was 'wasn't he in a bad mood just a few hours ago'.

"Are you alright sire?" said Gwaine snapping Arthur out of his thoughts and back to reality.

"Yes I an,it's just...don't you think that it's a little bit wired how Merlin was in a bad mood a few hours ago and now he's bonding  with the Aratheian knights so well?" Arthur ranted gesturing towards Merlin and his knights.

Gwaine and an approaching Lancelot laughed."Do I detect a hint of jealousy my lord." said Lancelot. Hitting Lancelot and Gwaine on the head Arthur turned to face the rest of the group.

"Let's make camp here."With a nod from everyone he dismounted his horse, noticing Merlin doing the same but this time it was different. This time it was as if Merlin was a king himself as he carefully bit gracefully dismounted his horse. Shaking the thought off like usual Arthur begun to help unload. While everyone was busy setting up Gwaine,Lancelot, and the Aratheian knights were busy themselves, as they were getting ready to celebrate a certain young prince's birthday.

"Questas Al'Baine" Devin whispered quietly trying so hard not to ruin the surprise. As Gwaine and Lancelot gazed in awe, the Aratheian knights were already up and walking over towards Merlin.

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Merlin! Happy Birthday to you." Everyone sang as Merlin turned around. As he faced the crowd the only thing he could do is look at them as the aratheial knights caught glimpse of it and immediately stopped in there tracks. For it was then that they had realized the meaning of his tears. The day he named himself the worst prince in all the five lands.

For Merlin, his birthday was none other than death day. Wiping away his tears Merlin grew extremely short tempered. He was fed up with everyone trying to make him feel better and telling him to stop blaming himself. Merlin only wanted to be alone and clear his mind.

"Honestly Merlin, you are really something-."

"King Arthur don't!" sir Charles said interrupting him.

"What I'm just saying it's his birthday and he's over there in tears, like he's been in pain for years." He continued causing Merlin to stop in his tracks.

"Sire, you shouldn't butt into things your unaware of." Devin sparred.

"It doesn't matter. It's his birthday, a time for celebrations." Arthur finally spat back.

"Enough!" Merlin yelled snapping the attention back to him. "Thanks for the gesture but no thanks. Pain is an understatement compared to what I've been through on this day, so don't act like you know anything Arthur...Cause you don't." With his final spatter Merlin walked away and went to sleep leaving both his and the Camelotian knights astonished and in disbelief. Especially the camelotian knights who have never seen Merlin in this state before.

"What was that about?" Gwaine questioned.

"We almost forgot that Merlin hated his birthday." Devin explained.

"What happened that was so bad for Merlin to feel so much hatred towards his birthday?"Percival questioned, just joining the mist of the conversation along with Elyan and the others.

"And why are you guys acting as if you've known Merlin your entire life?" Arthur questioned the young knight.

There was an abrupt pause. It went silent. Not a single peep was  uttered from the knights of Aratheial. This uncomfortable situation made the Camelotian knights and their king extremely curious. With all eyes focusing on the visiting knights waiting for an explanation. Sir Hunter spoke up for his friends and on behalf of his prince.

"We grew up with Merlin when he would often visit Aratheial with his mother."With the camelotian knights shocked faces hunter continued. " I would tell you what happened but I'm not in the right to tell you said information. I'm sorry my lord."

The silence was finally broken by none other than Arthur himself.

"Alright that's understandable. Now everyone get some rest we have a few more roads to tread until we reach the Aratheial borders." he said. As everyone went to sleep Arthur was left alone within his thoughts as he kept an eye out for he was first watch.

When the morning sun shone across the forest our young king awoken out of the sleep he didn't remember taking. Panicking Arthur twist and turn when he notice a empty sleeping bag and a missing Merlin. Believing the worse Arthur woke up the others. After countless looking they found Merlin bathing in the small lake a good walking distance from the camp. As elyan was about to call out to him he noticed something unbelievable. His scars. "Since when did Merlin have scars?" he questioned.

"He has more than we know, but we should go bef-" before Charles could finish he saw an angry Merlin treading pass them as if ignoring them.

As Merlin returned to the camp he started to pack up,the knights and Arthur returned to the camp seeing an already mounted Merlin.

"That was fast." Gwaine retorted as he and the others mounted there horse and they started to take off.

Merlin chuckled and then went back into his thoughts. After a good four hours they finally arrived at the border." just five more miles until we reach the hideout." Nathan explained as they charged ahead onto aratheial grounds.

"So Merlin!" Arthur shouted, capturing Merlin out of his daze." You going to tell us about those scars or at the very least why you hate your birthday so much?" he questioned.

Merlin grew silent once more, but then decided to finally speak. He sighed."That day was the day I lost a few friends." he mustered up. Gwaine and the rest turned to glimpse a state of Merlin they hated.

"Mer-"

"Eight years ago yesterday I was with my family visiting Aratheial and.....I...I just lost so much. I'm sorry but that's all your getting out of me. For today at least." Merlin spoke interrupting Arthur.

" Merlin I didn't mean to push." said Arthur.

"It's fine. Like I said yesterday you didn't know." replied Merlin as he gitted to his knights leaving Arthur in a gaped awe.

That's right his friends didn't know, and they still don't know the whole truth. The truth that would eventually shape them all. The truth that haunted him every bit worse than a serket sting ever bore. The truth of his identity. His status. His position in all of this combined. The truth of Merlin.
