Angelique's P.O.V.

I've been with the small McNally family for almost a year now, in two months it will mark my wedding anniversary to Scott. The most important day though is today because it's our little angel's birthday. He turns one today. Although it's a joyful day it's also the one year anniversary for Ellen's death. Scott hasn't been himself for a week now. He's hardly ever home, burying himself in work. Whenever he is home however, he spends every waking second with Lucas. I'm worried about him, I know it's hard for him to face Ellen's death but he's not alone. I know he loves me but I know that he misses Ellen a lot more. They had something special and I know I'll never be able to replace that, not that I intend to.

The night before I had stumbled into a room that I haven't been in before. It was dusty and everywhere I looked were picture frames covered in dust with pictures I couldn't make out. It was only when I wiped them down that I realized the room belonged to Ellen. The closest was filled with her clothes and the walls were covered in pictures of her and Scott but mostly her. Scott must have locked up the room after her death, leaving all her possessions untouched. There was however, a chair in the middle of the room that had no dust on it, an indication that someone has been in the room. I decided not to stay in the room for too long. I didn't want Scott to get upset that I had been in the room that held the memories of his first love. I left the room and locked the door.

I was setting up some more chairs in the living room for the small party when the door bell rang. I set down the last chair and went to the door. When it swung open I found Lina and Lux smiling at me. Lux was holding her tiny daughter in her arms and Lina was holding the hand of her little sister.

"Hey," I smiled at them stepping aside to let them in.

"Hey, I hope you don't mind but I brought my cousin's daughter and my brother-in-law with me," Lux stated glancing back at the two little kids behind her.

"It's fine, I don't mind," I replied leading them to the living room.

"So where's Scott?" Lina asked sitting down on the couch.

"I don't know but I hope he gets here soon or he'll miss the candles being blown out," I replied.

"Steven and Zach will come by later today, they couldn't miss their meeting. Apparently it's a very important one," Lux explained.

"It's fine. I'm just gonna get the birthday boy and then we can start. If Mia and Shelly show up just let them in," I said walking towards Lucas's room. He was sitting in his crib playing with his stuffed toys when I picked him up.

"Hey little man. Let's go celebrate your birthday," I said walking back to the living room. When I got there Mia and Shelly were seated and in deep discussion with Lux and Lina. Shelly was the first to look up.

"Hey, happy birthday little guy," she got up and walked over to me. Mia was holding Shelly's son while Shelly took Lucas from my arms.

"I swear he gets cuter everytime I see him," Mia commented looking at Shelly.
I laughed and got up.

"I'll go get the cake," I said walking to the kitchen. I lit the single candle on the cake and walked back to the living. We started singing as I put the cake on the coffee table in front of Lucas. I stood back and snapped a few pictures of the birthday boy and his cake before slicing a piece for everyone.

"Next we'll open presents," Lina suggested pushing her gift onto the table. We all huddled together around Shelly as we opened Lucas's birthday presents. We got a lot of toys and clothing all which were pretty cute. I was putting away the last of his stuff when the door bell rang again. Mrs. Gilbert looked at me confused from the kitchen as she packed the dishes into the dishwasher. I opened the front door and was greeted by a police officer. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach as I knew he was here about Scott. The police officer looked down at me with a sad smile.

"Mrs. McNally?" He asked.

"Yes that's me," I replied.

"Your husband has been in a terrible car accident. He's currently in the hospital in critical condition. We came to personally escort you to the hospital," he said. My heart was beating frantically in my chest and it felt like time has slowed down. I grabbed my coat and Lucas's bag and ran out the door with the little angel in my arms. We got into the squad car and drove to the hospital. A lot of things were running through my mind and it was almost impossible to think clearly. When we arrived at the hospital Scott was still in sugery and we had to wait.

I sat down in the waiting area, my chest tight and tears streaming down my cheeks. I looked at Lucas and smiled sadly at him.

"Daddy's going to be okay, I promise," I said. The innocent little angel on my lap just smiled at me. We waited for probably four hours before the doctor came to talk to me.

"Your husband had suffered internal bleeding and it was hard to find where it was coming from. We've managed to stop it. He has a broken leg but with therapy it should heel. He also suffered a bit of head trauma but it's nothing serious. He's a bit bruised but that should go away within a week. He hasn't woken up yet but I'll let you go see him," the doctor explained.

"Thank you so much," I breathed out a shaky breath and hugged him. The Doctor guided us to Scott's room and then left. I walked over to a bruised and battered Scott who was asleep on the hospital bed. He looked terrible and I couldn't help but let a few tears escape. I still had Lucas with me and right now he was the only thing keeping me from losing myself in tears.
The little angel looked at me with sleepy eyes and I knew he was going to fall asleep. I smiled and made him lay down in my arms. I grabbed him a bottle of milk from his bag and gave it to him. When he fell asleep I asked the hospital if I could have a crib placed in the room where I then layed a sleeping Lucas. I sat down next the Scott's hospital bed and grabbed his hand. They had removed his wedding ring but I placed it back on his finger.

"How did this happen to you?" I asked tears streaming down my cheeks," I know that this time is hard for you. Why didn't you ask Bill to drive you?" I sobbed.

"You should come talk to me, I'm your wife. I'm here for you, we're supposed to share the stress load with each other. I know you're tough but you're human, even you can break. I know you're trying to be selfless but please I'm not as fragile as you think me to be. Don't ever drive when you have too much going on. We have Bill for a reason," I explained drying my eyes. I was tired, stressed out and I just wanted my husband to wake up and look at me. The Doctor had told me that Scott probably won't wake up for the next two days as his body recovers. I didn't want to leave his side until he wakes up but knowing Mrs. Gilbert she'd probably make me go home. This day sure was an eventful day. I'm sort of glad that Lucas is still just a baby, god only knows if he was old enough to understand he'd probably think it was his fault.

I later fell asleep in the chair next to Scott's bed.
Dreaming...

There was a glowing figure hanging over Scott's sleeping form. It was a beautiful woman with long blonde hair. She looked like she was whispering something in his ear. She looked really familiar. I realized that the woman dressed in white was Ellen. She looked up at me and smiled at me.

"Take care of him, he's going to need you more than ever," she said taking my hand in hers. Her hand was warm, almost like a heavenly warmth. I nodded at her.

"I promise," I replied looking over at Lucas. She followed my gaze and looked at her son. She gasped covering her mouth with her hand unable to believe that her son was here too.

"He's growing up so fast," she gushed stoking the little angel's head.

"Take care of him too, I will always be watching over you," she smiled sadly then turned to me.

"I promise," I replied looking back at Lucas. When I looked up she was gone.
Slightly confused I woke up....
...End of dream

I rubbed my eyes and looked around the room. There was no one there but it felt like there was. I looked at Lucas and then at Scott. Smiling I layed my head back down and fell asleep.
