Henry's P.O.V.
"Mr. Adams you're sister has called. She says that your other sister Kate is in the operating room and will be out soon," my secretary buzzed. I rubbed my face in frustration. This waiting is making me anxious.
"Please cancel my afternoon meetings and let my wife know that I'm going to the hospital to stay with my sister," I told the secretary leaving. I grabbed my coat and my keys with my phone and left the office. I got in my car down in the parking lot and drove to the hospital. Once I got there I found my sister Christa crying in the waiting room. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach. Sitting down next to her I asked her what happened.
"Angelique is here somewhere and I just had a fight with her," Christa announced wiping her tears away. I cared a lot about my sister's, growing up with the father we had I've always been protective of them until Angelique was born. We didn't expect our mother to have another baby and we were almost graduated when Angie was born that we didn't get to see her grow up. I knew that Angie was going to have a hard life ahead of her and I wanted so badly, I tried so hard to protect her but in the end it was too late.
"Why is Angie here?" I asked concerned. I know nothing happened to her if she could fight Christa but I'm still concerned.
"Scott's in the hospital I don't know what for but he's here," she replied still sniffling.
"Oh, how's Kate doing, any news yet?" I asked looking around.
"No she's still in there they said they'll let us know in a bit," she said.
"Okay, do you know which direction Angelique went?" I asked hopeful that my sister knows.
"Scott's room is room 202 in that hallway," she pointed with an irritated look.
"Thanks sis," I kiss her head and got up walking the direction she pointed. Once I reached the room I saw Angelique asleep on Scott's hand beside his bed. I looked around the room and found a crib with a little baby boy smiling at me. I walked over to him and picked the little kid up.
"Hey little man, who's your mommy because I know you don't belong to Angelique," I said bouncing him up and down making him giggle.
"What are you doing?" Angelique asked slightly suprised. She rubbed her eyes and hastily got up. She walked over to me and took the little kid from my arms.
"Christa said you were here," I replied frowning as she sat down again.
"I'm not going to forgive you all so if Christa sent you here to talk to me you're wasting your time," she snapped. Damn I forgot about that she's a little spitfire. I smiled and pulled another chair to sit next to her.
"Christa didn't send me, I just wanted to check on you," I smiled looking at the little kid. He grinned at me, his blue eyes bright with innocence.
"Why do you care if I'm okay? You didn't care when I was in high school," she bit back. This is going to be more difficult than I thought. She really hates me.
"I've always cared about you Angie, don't ever for one second think I didn't. Now if you'll shut up and listen to what I have to say then I'm sure you'll understand our reasons for why it seemed we never cared," I spoke with authority. She was always assuming things and never bothering to find out the facts. She stared at me, shocked at how I made her shut up. She sighed then looked down.
"Fine, I'll give you a chance to explain," she said defeated. I took her silence as my cue to start talking.
"Before you were born things weren't exactly as you thought they were. Dad and mom didn't treat us nicely or loved us, they were either never home or constantly shouting at each other. Sometimes dad would be so angry that he'd hit me and Kate. At the time, Christa was little and Kate and I hid her in the closet to protect her. Mom wasn't home when this happened but she knew about it yet did nothing, too afraid that he'll do the same," I paused for a second watching Angelique clasp her hand over her mouth not able to believe what I'm telling her.
"He hit you too?" She asked shocked. I nodded then continued.
"Kate and I always made sure that Christa wasn't in the house by herself. We took her everywhere we went. If I hung out with my friends she'd be with me or Kate. Once Kate and I graduated, Christa wasn't far behind but then mom got pregnant and had you. Nobody expected mom to have another kid and Kate and I knew we wouldn't be able to protect you like we did Christa. I know you probably think we didn't even try but believe me we did, we tried every damn day," my throat felt tight and I knew that I would start crying if Angelique cried too.
"Why didn't you try harder?" She asked tears trailing down her cheeks.
A single tear rolled down my cheek too just watching her."I did everything I could. Dad had forced me into a marriage and soon I knew my efforts were starting to disintegrate. Kate though she could still protect you. She got Christa to help but when dad married Kate off she wasn't able to help anymore. Christa was left on her own to protect you. She didn't do so well. One night dad came home and beat her so severely that she nearly died," Angelique's eyes widened and then she looked down. I knew she was thinking of that night because it's the very night dad raped her. She didn't know about Christa because mom threatened to tell the police it was me who hit Christa if I told Angelique.
"She - she it was the same night as when h-he did t-that to me," she quivered as more tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Yes, after Christa was released from the hospital she decided to live in the dorms at university until she finished school to escape him. She was so scared but I was more afraid and worried about your safety. I fought in court to have custody of you but dad cheated and I lost the case. Kate even tried but everytime we'd lose. One day mom came to us and told us that if we interfered with what dad was doing to you we'd suffer consequences. We didn't give up, we saw the bond between you and Ben and decided to let him in on the situation. We didn't expect him to be so protective over you and we sort of knew he loved you. Don't be mad at us, we never gave up. We always cared," I finished. She was sobbing now and it broke my heart to see my baby sister this broken. If I could I would kill that bastard. She didn't stop so I decided to wrap my arms around her. She didn't push me away.
"I'm so sorry for being angry with you, I didn't know about the things you guys did for me. I forgive you, will you forgive me?" She asked looking at me with red puffy eyes.
"Yes I forgive you," I said hugging her. The little kid smiled at me.
"How's Kate doing?" She asked and I realized that we've been here for over an hour.
"I don't know, her surgery should be done. I'll go find out," I said getting up.
"I'll be here," Angelique stated looking back at Scott's unconscious form.
"Okay, I'll be right back," I left the room and walk towards the waiting room. My wife was seated next to Christa with my daughter on her lap.
"Daddy!" She exclaimed getting of her mother's lap and running towards me.
"Hey sweetheart," I picked her up and kissed her cheek. I sat down next to my wife.
"Where did you go?" She asked eyeing me suspiciously.
"Angie is here too, I was just in her room talking to her," I explained turning to Christa.
"How's Kate doing?" I asked looking around.
"She'll be out soon," she replied tiredness clear in her voice.
"Go home and get some rest I'll stay here and let you know when Kate gets out," I suggested. She gave me a weary smile before grabbing her stuff and leaving.
"So what did you and Angie talk about?" My wife asked. I don't think she knows Angelique is my sister.
"We talked about the past," I replied looking at my daughter.
"The past?" She questioned.
"Yes, Angelique is my little sister," I stated. Realization hit her and she finally understood who Angie was.
"Oh well I'm gonna take our kid home. Let us know when Kate gets out," she said and quickly got up leaving. Well that was abrupt. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. This was going to be a long night.
