Saving Sawyer: Chapter 11: The Movies

Sawyer's POV

Vivian had breakfast waiting by the time I came downstairs, her bubbly personality greeting me warmly. "Morning!" She kissed my cheek and pulled the chair out.

"Are you okay?" I sat down and she sat across from me. "You're really happy this morning."

"I'm great." She took a sip of her coffee. "I'm opening the store back up today." She really did love that place.

I poked at the food with my fork, "Um...would it be okay if I didn't come in today after school?"

"Sawyer, being around people would be good for you. Just don't bite the head off another customer."

I forked a piece of egg into my mouth. "I wasn't going to come home...Cade invited me with hang out with him and Liv after school." Her features brightened.

She wrapped her arms around me and gently squeezed. "Of course you can go hang out. Have fun...I have the store under control." She grabbed her bag and headed for the door. "Have a great day." She has been bugging me to 'hang out' with people my own age since I had come back to live with her and now, she was ecstatic.

No sooner had she left that the door was being knocked on. With Keith already at work and Vivian gone, I was alone and that did scare me a bit. I cautiously walked over to the window and pushed the blinds aside enough for me to see who was standing on the porch. I smiled when I saw it was Cade. He was in a pair of ripped jeans and a skin tight shirt. Vivian had always said that aesthetic staff brought in more customers and Cade was proof of that. I grabbed my backpack and locked the door behind me. "Morning."

"Morning...you seem to be in a good mood." He slightly laughed as we ascended the stairs.

I shrugged, "Vivian's moods are contagious."

He walked beside me, his hand dangerously close to mine. Every ounce of my body screamed to grab it and hold it, but my brain knew better than that. He wasn't like me...there was a reason why Liv, being a girl, was his best friend. "Sawyer?"

"What?" I hadn't noticed I zoned out. "Sorry." I smiled, embarrassed. He slightly laughed and I thought I noticed his eyes trained on my lips. Apparently, I wanted him so bad that I was now seeing things.

"We could either go to the arcade or the movies - which sounds better?"

"Um...what do you and Olivia normally do?" A look of guilt flashed across his face and I cursed myself for whatever I had said. "Shit, I'm sorry -"

Half his mouth pulled up. "What are you apologizing for? Liv and I haven't really been able to hang out in years. I've had to work." He pushed his hands into his pockets and part of me was disappointed that I hadn't taken the chance when I had it.

"This is the first time I've hung out with anyone since we were little. Having friends wasn't really an option at my parents' house." I admitted.

"Well, you're not there anymore." He grabbed my hand and smiled, his fingers intertwining with mine. My heart skipped a few beats, my brain going into overdrive to prevent myself from passing out. His skin was warm and it left small pinpricks where it touched. We walked to school hand in hand, ignoring all those that turned to look at us. We talked and no one else seemed to matter. For once, I was just a teen boy and it felt fucken great.

Liv looked us up and down as we walked up to Cade's locker, her eyes lingering on our linked fingers. "Are you guys like a thing now, or something?" Her voice was a bit annoying but if hearing it meant that I got to hang out with Cade then I could get used to it - eventually.
