Saving Sawyer: Chapter 8: Pink Elephants

Cade's POV

"Wait, Sawyer -" He hung up the phone and I cursed myself for even thinking about asking that question. I had no right...I should've known he would react that way. I was still a stranger to him after all. All the progress we made as kids no longer applied...

"Cade?" My dad walked into my room, his eyes heavy and obviously unrested.

I pulled my legs up to my chest and rested my chin on my knees. "What do you want?"

He grabbed my computer chair and pulled it closer to my bed before sitting down. "I wanted to talk about what happened earlier."

"You mean your bitch of a fianc\u00e9e slapping me at the hospital?"

His features scrunched up in annoyance. "She already apologized for that and don't call her that-"

"But you still didn't believe me!" I exploded feeling a bit betrayed. He was my dad. He was supposed to believe me no matter what I said. I wasn't the type to lie to him and that made it hurt all the more.

"- and that's my fault?"

"Yes that's your fault! I'm your son for crying out loud."

He got up and rested his hand on my shoulder. "Cade, you're not the only one in my life anymore. She's going to be my wife in a few months. I know I didn't go about introducing her correctly but I'd really appreciate it if you tried to get along with her."

I shook my head in defeat. He didn't get it and nor would he. "Did you even think about me?"

"Of course I thought about you Cade, I think about you all the time." With that he put my chair back in its proper place and went back to his own room.

I rolled over under my comforter, reluctant to get out of my bed. Just like every morning, I wanted to revel in the small world I created when I closed my eyes but Liv would be worried if I skipped any more school. Especially considering I was supposed to hang out with her the day before. I took a quick shower before pulling on an old sweatshirt with a pair of ripped jeans before heading downstairs.

"Morning Cade." Leonie smiled as her demons ran by me, still dressed in their pajamas. They truly were unruly children...

I walked right out the door, not bothering to give my greeting back. I already knew I was late and getting into another fight with her would just make Liv murder me.

"Cade Anthony Shay!" I turned to see my dad standing on the porch, the few kids walking to school turning to look at the guy getting yelled at from down the street. "Come here now!" I groaned and turned around, getting tired of being forced to back track. His arms were crossed over his chest, his cup of coffee firmly held in his left hand. "Do not be rude to your mother. Leonie told you good morning, get in there and be nice."

Anger flared in the pit of my stop. "That bitch is not my mother." I stormed back into the house, my dad right behind me.

She was standing at the foot of the stairs, her hands resting against her stomach. Even though the baby growing in her was my biological sibling, I couldn't help but feel like he or she was just going to be like one of the other demons that were still running around like maniacs. "'Morning."

She smiled and retrieved a brown paper bag from the kitchen. "This is for you, have a nice day at school." She handed it to me and I mumbled a brief thanks before running back down the street.
