Angelica's POV

The night proved to be no help to me. I only managed around three hours of sleep. Falling asleep at 1 am and waking up at around 4 am is not something I'm used to. Not since I was a model. It was almost seven when I got up, brushed my teeth, had a shower and applied concealer under my eyes. Coz honestly, I could pass for a zombie right now. I am not in a fit state to face anyone at this moment.

I went straight to the breakfast room since this is where we always eat during weekends. I wasn't really prepared for the awkwardness that I know was going to greet me. When I entered the room, Luc was already finishing his coffee and reading the paper. The kids are probably still asleep. I always let them sleep in during weekends.

"Have a seat and eat Angel. We have much to talk about," he invited without taking his eyes away from the paper. How could he be so calm and indifferent after the events of last night? He took having nerves of steel to a whole new other level. Even I am on the verge of hysterics and people tell me I am devoid of human emotion. "I ordered for the kids to have their breakfast at the kitchen so we can talk undisturbed."

I ate quietly, wishing I was anywhere but here. When I finished, I took a huge gulp of coffee, wondering if it was as hot as it looked and wondering why I didn't feel anything. "Luc..." I couldn't bring myself to say anything else but his name. "I...we..." why the fuck was I stuttering?

"Listen carefully cara, we proceed as planned. There isn't much to discuss really. I will leave the preparations to you and my sister," he said still without looking up from his paper. Is getting married not a big deal?

I took another gulp of my coffee, finishing it. "Luc, I can't arrange a wedding and still work for you. You mentioned last night that it will be a big event, as soon as possible. You're asking for a miracle," I said emphatically. He still didn't look bothered. And wait, was I honestly going through with this farce? I haven't raised any objections. What the hell was I saying?

"I want your resignation. As much as it pains and inconveniences me, I have to let you go as a secretary. Don't worry, I'll get a man to replace you. By now I'm sure word has spread about our engagement. I already called the company's public relations to release an official statement. All you have to do is hand in your notice for formality."

"Luc, you're not getting my point. Besides, how sure are you that there will be a wedding? I know the wedding mentioned last night was for your mistress' benefit. I promise you won't have to go that far. The twins and I can move out and find somewhere to live and you can proceed as usual. You won't have to find another secretary."

That took his attention. He slowly and deliberately folded his newspaper and refilled his coffee. "I will pretend I didn't hear that," he said grimly, almost growling. "But to make this perfectly clear, Maria Allegri was never my mistress. She is the daughter of one of my father's closest friends. Also, you will refrain from making anymore remarks about going away. You will stay in my house and we will marry. End of discussion."
