Lucca's POV

Antonio and Juan Marco are in my office. My sister has probably told Antonio, who told Juan Marco about how I unknowingly fathered twins. My secretary's twins. They haven't went around to asking my directly yet. But I am expecting them to any minute now. They will not be able to keep their mouths shut for too long.

"So, are you going to marry her?" Juan Marco asked, already knowing I won't bother asking what he was talking about. Both of them looked outside my office as if they could actually see her. I don't have glass walls, so unless they can see through walls, there's no way in hell they can see her. But I know that before they entered my office, they all but appraised her. Wondering how stupid I was to let go of a woman of such beauty and intelligence.

I sighed and sat down. Finishing my coffee before it became completely cold. "I will be lying if I said the thought didn't enter my mind. The truth is, the idea is becoming more appealing as days go by. However, we all know marriage based on the sex and convenience hardly ever works. Yes, I want to give my children a complete family. Maybe even just the illusion of it. But at what cost?"

They stared at me as if I grew a second head. They looked at each other and back to me again. "Are you telling me you don't want to marry her without love?" Juan Marco asked. "Do you honestly believe such thing exists?"

Antonio gave out a mirthless laughter which I echoed. Love? The thought hadn't even entered my mind. "I am not talking about love amico. What I meant was affection and mutual respect. We treat each other with professional respect but hardly ever of personal care. We are always indifferent except when we are with the children. How do you make marriage survive with that?"

It hurt. To admit to himself that the woman he was slowly falling for all over again treated him with indifference hurt. He believed he could handle her hate, her loathing. At least if she felt those things, then he can assure himself she felt something. But indifference meant he was nothing to her.

Juan Marco opened his mouth as if to say something but shut it again. It was one of those rare times his friend could be tactful. "At least if you marry her, both of you will enter the marriage with eyes wide open." It was Antonio who spoke. "You will make no demands like fidelity or loyalty on each other. You are free to live your life as if you are no married. You just have to be a little bit more discreet."

"Your argument makes great sense my friend. However, how would that work in the long term? What will our children say when they realize I am cheating on their mother? How will they react once they realize we married for their sake?"

Before Juan Marco could protest or Antonio could further his argument, the door opened and in came the woman I have been avoiding for months. "Maria, what are you doing here?!"
