. . .
MY CHEEKS flush at how suggestive Mingyu's words sounded in my ears. The sly little smirk he wore on his face didn't help either, and it only gave me the impression that he meant to do something... Dirty to me if he had told me where the base is.
I shiver and frantically shake my head to get rid of the thought, but Mingyu doesn't seem to notice, as he is rather occupied with something he's been rambling on about for the past five minutes or so.
"Crystal-ah, did you hear what just I said?" He asks, poking my cheek with his index finger and snapping me right out of my thoughts.
I shake my head sheepishly, knowing that I've been caught redhanded. "Sorry, I kind of zoned out. Could you maybe repeat yourself?"
The boy sighs, but nods anyway. "I was talking about getting you a job."
My ears perk up then, eager about getting my life back on track. I look at him interestedly, motioning for him to continue.
"But see, I don't know just what kind of work you'd want to do. Still, however... I went ahead and set up a job interview for you scheduled this afternoon."
My eyes widen at his words and I come to a halt when I choke on my own spit. Mingyu stops as well, and asks me if I'm alright as he worriedly pats my back.
"Wh-at?" I sputter, voice hoarse from all the coughing. "What kind of job did you sign me up for?"
"Oh, just as some barista at a nice, little café closeby." He says, shrugging a shoulder nonchalantly. Then, with a little smile, he says, "A barista at The Coffee House."
My jaws drop open and I stare at him in disbilief. I stay like that for a little more, and seeing this, Mingyu's smile slowly falters until it turns into the complete opposite of it.
"Aigoo, did I mess up? Have I misinterpreted your wants?" He asks, worry clouding his features. Before I can even open my mouth to speak, the boy facepalms himself, looking flustered and disappointed at himself. "Aish, I'm terrible at my job! Mianhae, Crystal-ah. I'll go call them to ca—"
I reach up and grab his wrist, slowly bringing it down as he looks at me confusedly and in bewilderment.
"Mingyu-ah," I say lowly, my voice cracking as a grin threatens to break onto my face. He visibly gulps, perhaps afraid that I would shout at him, even though I'd do no such thing. Instead, I jump at him, unable to contain my happiness any longer. I lock him in a tight embrace, causing him to stumble back in surprise and freezing in place.
"Thank you!" I squeal, burying my face in the crook of his neck. Due to his height, however, I struggle just by doing so and have to stand on my tiptoes like a ballerina to even reach his shoulder.
Mingyu simply stands there, stunned as ever, but finally hugs me back when he's realized that I am far from being upset at him. He's slow to get things, but I like him just fine even so.
"Of course," He murmurs in my hair softly before pulling away. "Yah, don't scare me like that! I thought that you were going to fire me!"
I blink, tilting my head. "Wait, I can do that?"
He seems a bit reluctant at first, probably regretting what he just told me, then nods.
"Oh~" I purse my lips, then start skipping away to my next class.
"Wait—" Mingyu says, and rushes in front of me to stop me. "You're not seriously considering it, are you?"
I tilt my chin upwards, looking away from Mingyu's worried face. I inwardly grin, deciding that I should mess with him a little.
Pretending to think as I tap my chin upwards, I say, "Maybe,"
"Aish!" He practically shouts, all hope seemingly lost in his eyes. "Yah, I shouldn't have told you that!"
I chuckle at his overdramatic response to my lie. Patting his chest twice and smiling at him, I say, "Relax, Mingyu; I'd be crazy to want you out of my life."

"YOU CAN do it."
I let out a whimper, pacing back and forth aimlessly in front of the café. My interview's in ten minutes, and I am currently a nervous wreck even though I've been through this a couple of times before.
"But what if they don't like me? What if they decide to give the job to someone else? Oh, God. What if I start stuttering and get a panic attack? It's never happened before, but in this crazy snow globe of a world, anything can ha—" I rant on, but am cut off by Mingyu shushing me with his one, long finger pressed against by lips.
"First off—" He says, giving me a look. "Who doesn't like you? Second—" Mingyu takes his finger off of my lips and gives me a reassuring smile. "Let's hope that they're not dumb enough to do that. And lastly—" He puts both hands on my shoulders and look me in the eyes with sincere seriousness. "You are Jeon Soojung, and you've done this before—hell, you've been through worse. You can do this, Crystal; I believe in you."
I don't know why, but his words give me reassurance, even just a little. It's enough to momentarily distract me from my rambling thoughts, at least, that is until the we get in the café and are greeted by a lady in semi-formal clothes.
"Yes, Miss Jeon? Mr. Lee will see you now."
