. . ."YOU'RE KIDDING ME."
I stare at Jina, who is sitting quietly on my bed as she anxiously pulls at her fingers. The moment she stepped in my room, she never dared look me in the eyes, not really—just like what she usually does when she's scared of something.
"Jina." I say, and she hesitantly looks up at me through her bangs. "Tell me you're trying to be an actress and you're just rehearsing your lines."
Jina bites her lip. "I'm sorry, Jungie. But appa made up his mind. I'm going back to Ulsan tomorrow."
"But it's so sudden! He's not even giving you a week?" Jina shakes her head no, making me sigh and sit on my desk. "This house is going to be so lonely without you."
"I know, Jungie. I'm sorry." She drops her gaze and stretches her legs. "But I'll visit you as much as I can, alright? Three times a year at the least."
"Alright, Jin." I smile reassuringly at her, though inside I'm already thinking about just how I'm going to go by a day without my best friend. "Do you need help packing?"
She tips her chin slightly upwards, considering my offer before nodding and smiling appreciatively at me.
"That'd be great, Jungie."

ABOUT AN HOUR and a half later, both Jina and I are in her room packing up the last of her belongings and labelling the boxes with a black boardmarker.
Once that's been done, I get up and head towards my room to get the duct tape to seal the boxes. When I come back, though, tears are streaming down Jina's cheek as she sits on her bed clutching what seems to be a photo album of sorts. Instinctively, I rush towards her and rub her back like a good friend would.
"Hey... Why are you crying?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows together.
"I... I don't want to l-leave." She answers, sniffling. "I love it here in Seoul! I don't get why appa has to make me move back to Ulsan."
I give her a pitiful smile and rest my hand on her back. "Your family misses you, Jin. You can't blame them."
"But if I leave, then you'll be all alone here."
I sigh. "That's not the point."
"Then what is?" She retorts, scrunching up her button nose.
"Look, Jina. It's your family we're talking about here. They haven't seen you in... In forever. Surely, they must want to see you again."
"But you—"
"I can take care of myself just fine." I tell her, gesturing at myself. "Come on, I'm a strong, independent girl! I've been there for myself for as long as I can remember."
Jina lets out a light chuckle and I smile, glad that I managed to cheer her up even just a little. "You know, I'm still amazed on how you've managed to survive on your own to this day."
"You and I both, Jin. You and I both." I move her hands away from the photo album and set it aside on her bed before turning to her once more, grinning. "Now c'mon, why don't we spend your last night here by having a movie marathon? We can watch A Cinderella Story and She's The Man again. Besides, we're done packing, aren't we?"
"You know me so well, don't you?" She laughs, and gets off the bed. "Let's go, I'm pretty sure we still have a tub of vanilla ice cream left in the fridge, anyway. We can't let it go to waste, now can we?"
✧ ✦ ✧
JINA AND I spent the whole night watching her favorite movies and TV series. It only took us halfway through the first movie to finish off the tub of ice cream, and though we felt guilty for eating so much at once, we ended up going to sleep with a wide smile plastered on each of our faces. To say that I will miss her might be the understatement of the century, but regardless, I'm still happy for her.
A truck comes to the house at about 9 AM to pick up Jina's belongings and bring them all to Jina's home at Ulsan. Two men came as well, who said that their job is to move all the boxes in the truck—and so their job they did. Jina and I opted to help, but they absolutely refused. And so while Jina's stuff were all carried out, we have our last breakfast together—or in the meantime, at least.
As usual, I am the one who stands by the stove with a spatula in hand, and Jina sets the table even if it's only for the two of us. Setting up the table doesn't take long, though, so she ends up lounging about in the living room. Cooking is most definitely not her forte, so I wouldn't even think about asking for her help unless I've got a death wish of sorts.
When I do finish making breakfast (peanut butter and banana waffles with a glass of milk), we dine in silently, facing the fact that she is, indeed, moving away very soon. We occasionally retell the tales of our past, and we'd have a good laugh or two—but breakfast simply feels rather heavy at heart and suddenly, none of us are even in the mood to eat anymore.
The moving truck went for Ulsan before Jina. She is picked up by her appa's driver a little later, and tears are shed and hugs are shared as I watch my best friend leave for her hometown.
I sigh. I miss her already.
