. . .
ONE MONTH LATER
-
"YAH! Wait up!" I huff, a little breathless from trying to keep up with the boy. "My legs aren't as long as yours!"
He stops walking and turns around to look at me, but I can't quite see his face for some reason. His figure is blurry and distorted, fuzzy and unclear, but nevertheless I still feel oddly conscious of my body.
Suddenly kneeling, he says, "Hop on."
"I can walk." I tell him, giving him a pointed look. "I was just kidding, don't worry about it."
"Aish,"
The next thing I know, my feet are off the ground, both legs hanging from either sides of the boy's back. He is holding them in place, and I have to circle my arms around his neck in order not to fall off.
"Put me down!" I whine, afraid that if I move so much as an inch, he will lose balance and cause the two of us to fall over.
"Relax," He answers, already continuing to walk through the sea of people at the carnival. "We'll get to the surprise faster this way, anyway. Besides, I wouldn't want your legs to get tired because of me."
Unexpectedly, the trip doesn't take too long; it's either that, or maybe I was in a reverie yet again so I wasn't aware of the things going on around me.
"I'm gonna put you down, alright?"
I nod and slide off his back, looking around.
"Where are we?" I ask, searching for the boy's face. "What are we here for?"
"You'll see," He replies, positioning my body beside his. He then tips my chin upwards so that I am looking at the sky, but all I see is nothing but darkness.
"Five... Four..."
I look at him for a brief moment, wondering again who he is.
"Three... Two..."
I still don't know who the figure is, but all I know is that he makes me feel... Serene for some reason, and I'm glad for him.
"One."
Fireworks start exploding then, colorful sparks booming here and there, wowing me and leaving me speechless. My eyes seem to be nailed to the view before me, and for a moment I forget about the boy's presence until he decides to speak up.
"Happy birthday, Crystal."
RIIIING!!!
I wake up gasping, sitting up on my bed. My cheeks are wet with either sweat or tears, and I feel as if I've just seen a ghost of sorts even though it was considerably a pleasant dream.
What the heck?
It felt weird and strangely familiar, like I've seen the scene from a movie somewhere, but at the same time a little part of me knows that that's not it.
... Was it something Dong Jun and I did? What the other boys and I did?
I shake my thoughts away, and turn to look at the time on my bedside drawer. It's 9:22 AM on a Saturday, meaning that I have the whole day to do absolutely nothing at all.
Swinging my legs off one side of the bed, I get up and decide to have breakfast. Since I don't feel like going through the hassle of unfreezing strips of pork or making pancake batter, I decide that I'll have milk and granola today—something simple yet filling.
After lazily finishing the food, I decide to see what show is on. I slump against the cushion on the couch and flip through the channels, only to find nothing interesting to watch and switching the television off once more.
I blankly stare at the screen, several thoughts going through my mind, thoughts mostly about Dong Jun. The past month has been pretty amazing, I've got to admit, and I'm actually thankful that I agreed to go out with him as he's made me nothing but happy.
My thoughts then drift off to my dream from before. I still don't know what it means or what it's trying to show me, but it's a dream, I suppose, so I guess it doesn't really mean anything at all.
The doorbell suddenly rings then, making me jerk my head towards the direction of the front door. Slowly, I get up from the sofa and make my way towards it, wondering just who would come to my house this early on a weekend. When I reach the the door, I open it to see a tall boy with an almost platinum blonde hair wearing a slightly-oversized nude sweater hopefully staring at the door I've just opened. His eyes widen when his gaze lands on me, and a huge smile finds its way onto his face.
"Crystal!" He exclaims, immediately tackling me in a bear-hug. I let out a muffled groan, obviously caught off-guard, and awkwardly stand there while the anonymous boy embraces me. Once I've come to my senses, though, I hesitantly push him off of me and tilt my head as I look at him, feeling confused as ever.
"I'm sorry, but... Who are you?"
"What?" He blinks, his smile never faltering as if thinking that all of this is a joke. "It's me, Mingyu. How can you forget me already?" I open my mouth to say that no, I don't even know who he is, but he cuts me off by speaking once more. "Oh, I get it. It's my hair, isn't it? Yeah, I got bored of my blue hair so I decided to change things up a bit."
I stay quiet, not knowing how to respond to this seemingly-eager boy. I feel bad for him somehow, even though I probably have no reason to, so I remain silent just because I don't dare tell him that I barely recognize him.
"You... Really don't remember me?" Mingyu asks, his smile quickly turning into a frown. He doesn't seem to be able to comprehend just what's happening right now, as pain and puzzlement has now cloud over his previously-cheerful features.
"I'm sorry, uh, Mingyu..." I say, anxiously chewing on my lower lip due to the guilt that is starting to take over me. "I really don't know who you are."
And oh how I've never felt the urgency to just hold someone so tightly before than when I see all the hope evaporate from his chocolate-brown eyes.
