. . .

A JUMBLE of thoughts pass through my mind, the beat of my heart stopping. I am instantly tongue-tied the second those words left the gang leader's lips, and all I seem to be able to do is stare at them. I meant to apologize for trespassing and run home as fast as my feet would allow, but my lips are completely immobile and my feet feels like heavy sandbags planting me to the ground.

"What's wrong, Sweetcheeks? Cat's got ya tongue?" One of them says, taking a step closer towards me. The other three simply snickers, eyeing me up and down hungrily and making me feel more exposed now than ever before.

"N-no." I stutter, tightening my grip on my groceries and mentally preparing myself to flee. "I-I'm sorry for coming here. I'll just leave now—"

"Oh, nonsense!" The leader, a burly man with sleeve tattoos and numerous piercings, cuts me off as he grabs my wrist and preventing myself from running away. "It's nice to have some... Visitors around here every once in a while."

"I'm sorry but I really need to go." I tell them again, tugging my arm away from him and voicelessly praying to God that they'll leave me alone.

"But you just got here!" He booms, turning me around with callous hands. "No need to be rushing home, we can have plenty of good time here."

"Please let me go." I plead, eyes frantically moving around in a vain attempt to look for an escape. "I won't tell anyone, I promise. Just please let leave."

"No can do, Lil' Missy." Another speaks, smirking and revealing a crooked tooth that sends unwanted shivers down my spine. "You're in our territory now, and you're not leaving until we say so."

The rest of them simply hums and inch closer towards me, while I slowly take backwards steps away from them. I could run away now, but one of the men forcefully tugs my arm towards them with such force that I know defying them would be a bad idea.

Help, I silently cry out, trying to pull myself away from the man's strong grip. He only tightens his hand around me, though, making me flinch at the roughness of his palms and whimper due to the growing pain around my wrist.

Someone holds my chin then, making me stop whatever I was doing and look up in shock. It's the man with the crooked tooth, and he is looking at me with what could only be lust in his eyes. I jerk my face away from him immediately, disgusted as ever. Being touched by these men repulses me, and I feel the need to scrub every inch of skin covering my body after all of this—that is, assuming that I'll make it out somehow.

"Feisty, are we?" He sneers, seeing my repulsion as an invitation for him to come closer. "You know, it's not everyday that someone with a pretty face talks back to us. How unique of you."

"Mmm, she's one of a kind." One with a bandana tied around his head speaks, agreeing with the other. "We can't let her go just yet, now can we? That would be such a shame." He advances towards me, shoving past the man with the crooked tooth, and starts to hold my waist firmly.

"Let me go!" I shout, squirming and hitting him aimlessly. Chances are, the man will get angry at me for trying to fight back but frankly I don't really care anymore. I just want to run home, go to work and forget about all of this.

"Ah-tut-tut," The leader leers, moving his battered face closer to mine. His breath smells of cigarettes and a hint of alcohol, two things I am most definitely not a fan of. "Now stop rebelling and co—"

His words are cut short when he is thrown hard against the wall, surprising everyone in the alleyway. I had originally thought that maybe he had slipped on something and ended up crashing right into the wall, but I was proved wrong when I see the familiar tufts of blue hair and the smell I've learned to adore.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Mingyu asks, his features clouded with rage as he pins the leader against the wall. He is breathing rather heavily, sweat already starting to dribble down his temples as he narrows his eyes at the man opposite of him. "Answer me, you fucker!"

"I don't see why anything we do concerns you." The leader drawls out, out of breath as blood trickles down his face. "Now why don't you mind your own business and scurry off, little boy?"

"I'll scurry off when you teach yourself some manners."

Mingyu pushes the man's head aside roughly, making him fall onto the ground in a heap. He then turns to look at the men holding me, eyes staring icy daggers at all three of them.

"Let go of her, you pigs." He says, voice low and threatening. I've never seen this side of him, and to be honest, it's making me completely speechless—but grateful for his arrival nonetheless.

"Why should we?" The man with the crooked tooth retorts, taking a step towards Mingyu. The two just stares at each other for a couple of seconds or so, obvious tension filling the afternoon air, before Mingyu punches him square in the jaw and making him fall to the ground as well.

"Now I'm going to repeat this one more time." He warns, his gaze fixated on the remaining two men. "Let. Her. Go."

"Why, you—" The one holding my waist starts, but like the leader, is cut off when Mingyu ever so swiftly grabs his wrist and twists it hard and away from me. The man lets out a scream in pain, but the blue-haired boy simply elbows his face and shuts him up. The last man stands frozen behind me, scared to death. He's trying not to show it, but it's still obvious anyway.

"Fuck off." Mingyu growls, jerking his head to the side as if telling the other to go. He obliges, nodding vigorously as he does so, and runs away leaving his friends passed out all over the ground.

"M-Mingyu—" I begin, for some reason on the verge of tears. His eyes soften immediately the moment we make eye contact, and he pulls me into a tight embrace that makes the tears start falling.

"Shh," He murmurs, soothing my hair down comfortingly. "I'm here, Crystal. I'm here."

When I've calmed myself down a little, Mingyu slowly pulls away to look me in the eyes. "What were you doing here?"

"I-I wanted to cook you dinner so I went to pick up some groceries before going to work." I explain, sniffling slightly. "I was afraid that I'll be late so I decided to go through the s-shortcut."

"Oh, you." He smiles warmly at me, wiping away my tears with the pad of his thumb and hugging me once more. Then, with an almost inaudible whisper, he says, "I'm not leaving you alone again."
