In 1966, my grandparents were 18. They remember sitting down and watching The Monkees for the first time ever. My grandpa still remembers the lyrics to I'm A Believer and Last Train to Clarksville and my grandma remembers falling for the short British lad, much like how she fell for Paul McCartney in 1964.
In 1986, my mom was 11/12. She witnessed the Monkees marathons on MTV. She remembers Davy being her favorite, and how her mother recalled seeing him on screen for the first time 20 years before.
50 years later, in 2016, I'm 18. Yet another generation to be hit with 'Monkeemania' after the release of Good Times and the Bluray set. I remember being introduced to the Monkees in my 12th grade Pop Culture class back in January. We watched Monkees vs. Machine—and I was instantly drawn to the one in the woolhat 😂 50 years later and now it's my generation's turn to pass on Monkeemania and keep the spirit alive!
