Cleo
"Hello?" Justin's voice asked through the phone, making goosebumps form onto my skin.
Taking a deep breath, I started to open my mouth to say something when I noticed a picture on my nightstand. There was a picture of me and Cameron sitting on the couch, with Wes and Noah sitting on either side of us. None of us were looking at the camera, but we were all laughing with each other. Flipping it over, I saw what looked like Noah's handwriting that said,
Words can't express how happy we are to have you in our family. We'll always love you! Love, Dad, Father and Cameron.
Seeing that note made me frown and instantly feel bad. Why was I calling someone that hasn't been here for me, when I actually have people who care about me?
"Hello?" The voice asked again, making me jump.
"Oh, sorry. This is Cleo."
There was a short pause until I heard, "Oh Cleo! Thanks for calling me; I didn't think that you would so soon."
"Look, I don't want to make small talk. If you want to talk you can meet me at that small coffee shop downtown tomorrow. Okay?"
"Okay, I'll see you then. Just let me know what time you want to meet up. And Cleo, thanks for giving me a chance."
With that I hung up, a knot starting to form in the pit of my stomach. Biting my bottom lip, I glanced over to the clock before resting my head against my pillow. The next time I opened my eyes a few hours had passed, making me slowly get off the bed. I then slowly walked down the steps and walked towards the kitchen, where a light was still on. When I walked in I saw Wes leaning against the counter, staring blankly down at his hands. He looked up when he heard me, giving me a small smile.
"Hi," he quietly said.
"Hi," I said while walking over to him. "I just wanted to tell you that I'm going to meet up with Justin tomorrow."
His face instantly dropped as he said, "Oh. Okay. Have fun."
"I'm not doing it to make you upset, I... I'm sorry if it makes you feel uncomfortable."
He instantly shook his head before saying, "Cleo, no. I'm not upset or uncomfortable. I'll always support you and everything you decide to do."
He obviously had a forced smile onto his face as he had a death grip onto the counter. "Okay," I quietly said before looking around the kitchen. "Is anyone still here?" I asked after a few moments of silence.
"Cameron took Phoebe and Hank to see his room at school before going to meet up with Hugo. Noah is upstairs; I'm not sure what he's doing."
"Oh, okay. Is it okay if I stay with Gabriel tonight?"
"Sure," he said with a small smile. His smile still didn't reach his eyes, something that still felt like my fault.
With that I walked away, quickly walking up to my room. As I was packing a bag to go to Gabriel's, I suddenly stopped and grabbed my phone. Dialing Hugo's number, I started biting my lip as I waited for him to pick up. Luckily he did on the first ring.
"Cleo?" His nervous voice asked. "Hey, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine Hugo. Don't worry."
He sighed in relief before saying, "Good. What's up?"
"Is Cameron still there?"
"Yes, but he's not currently in this room. He's showing his grandparents around campus. Do you need to talk to him?"
