We arrived at my house after dinner. It was beginning to get dark. I had called my father and told him they'll be taking me home. I walked up the sidewalk with Carolyn, Jared and Kristin right behind me. I pulled out my silver key from my pocket and placed it in the lock. I unlocked the door and called out to my parents.
"Mom, dad, I'm home! Can you come down here please!" I exclaimed into the house.
Seconds later I heard footsteps rushing down the stairs. My father, dressed in his surgeon uniform and my mother, in her grey pants and dark red tshirt appeared.
"Hello. I'm Jared and this is my wife Carolyn. We're Kristins parents." Jared said kindly.
"Hi. I'm Felix" My father introduced himself.
"And I'm Brooklyn." My mother said.
They shook hands and said their typical 'Nice to meet you' and greetings.
"May we speak with you?" Jared said.
My parents faces went from friendly to serious in a nanosecond. We all walked into the kitchen and sat down. I sat next to Kristin.
"What happened?" My dad asked.
"It's about Maritza."
My dad glanced at me.
"What is it?"
I had a feeling this wouldn't be very pretty. Jared began explaining what he is and where he works at and what they study at the DSP.
"So you study ghosts?" My mother said.
"Not just ghosts, Mrs. Johnson, supernatural phenomenon, catalytic people, and the InterRealm."
"InterRealm?" I said.
Jared looked at me.
"I forgot to mention that. The InterRealm is kind of like a separate dimension. It exists in our dimension but nobody notices because they can't interact with it. Nobody except the Catalysts and psychics, channelers, mediums whatever your want to call them. We've been studying the InterRealm for decades, but we still have no real idea of what it's like on the other side."
"Oh."
"Why are you telling us this?" My father asked.
"We are asking if you would allow us to take Maritza in to the DSP to study and train her."
Train? Train for what? He never mentioned that back at Kristins house.
My mother gave Jared the most skeptical face I've ever seen.
"You're crazy. You're not going to take my daughter to some fucking laboratory!"
"Brook, calm down." My father said softly.
"Ghosts aren't real!" She said to my father.
"Yes they are but they can be earthbound human spirits, demonic entities, or ultraterrestials, which are energy beings that travel back and forth between dimensions, these would be your angels, guardians, gods. There's entire civilizations created by these beings, it justs exists in another dimension."
My mother sat there, bewildered and wide-eyed. I still think she doesn't believe him. Typical of her.
"Mom, remember when you fell down the stairs? You said you were pushed." I began.
"Well..yes." She replied.
"Do you know what pushed you?"
"....no..."
