I almost fell over and flopped on the floor. I struggled out of the plush chair trying to suffocate me and stood up. I glared at Kirstin.

"What? Are you okay Maritza?"

I stood silent.

"Yeah..um go on."

"Supposedly the mother was arrested for accusation of witchcraft. It was said she cursed whomever lived on the land with eternal damnation. They say she spoke of a savoir. A kind of powerful being that possessed extraordinary superhuman abilities that could bring peace back to the land. This being is of high authority and guides others."

"A spiritual catalyst." We both said at the same time.

We stared at eachother.

I have read this online before. A spiritual catalyst is kind of like a guru. They lead others and possess supernatural abilities. Is that what I am?

"I know it's you, Maritza."

I stared wide-eyed at Kristin.

"Ho...how could you possibly know?"

"I have a gift. I'm kind of like psychic. I sensed it when I first encountered you. You have a very strong spiritual aura."

"What....Kristin...I don't think it's..."

"You picked up my heavy case with ease and you were surprised you could right? Catalysts have great physical strength."

"How do you know about all this?"

"My mother is what we call a channeler. She can communicate with the Spirit world. She would battle evil spirits using her own gift. Kind of like an exorcist. She knows about you. That's why you're here."

I stood there bewildered.

"How can I...defeat them?"

"That we do not know. That is beyond our capabilities."

I glanced at the floor.

"Kristin! Dinners ready!" Yelled a female which I'm guessing is Kirstins mother.

"Let's go."

We walked downstairs past the large kitchen and sat at the glass table in the dining room. A woman which seemed to be at least 35, came over to where we were and smiled. She had had short black hair, hazel eyes and light golden skin. She had barely visible dark circles under her eyes, showing lack of sleep. In the corner of her almond shaped eyes were slight wrinkles and a cheerful smile with cherry tinted lips was plastered on her face.

"Hi, you must Maritza." She said in a sweet voice.

"Yes ma'am." I nodded.

"I'm Carolyn Abernathy. Nice to meet you."

"Pleasure to meet you too."

She smiled and wandered into the kitchen. She returned with a large glass pitcher filled with a transparent pink liquid and set it on the table.

"Thank you." I said.

I poured some into my crystal glass and savored the bittersweet flavor of lemon.

Carolyn and another man, tall with dark chocolate curls and grey eyes wearing a deep navy blue dress shirt and black slacks entered the dining room and sat down across from us.

"Hello." He said in a deep voice, holding out his hand towards me.

"I'm Jared." He said to me.

I shook his hand and returned a smile.
