I entered a large office. Black carpet, white-grey panels as walls, large TV screens that were on, a large glass pane window revealed the nighttime city skyline, and a dark wooden desk stood in the center. Behind that desk was a man.
A dark golden skinned man with green-hazel orbs and short perfectly trimmed dark black hair wearing a black suit and navy blue tie. He had a barely visible outline of a silver scar going from his cheekbone to his ear. He stood up, presenting his incredible height. He was almost seven feet. He was very lean, and had long limbs. But looked strong at the same time. He flashed his unnaturally pearly whites at me and put his hands together in front of him.
"Welcome Maritza. I am Kyle Sarr. I am the head of this department. Pleasure to meet you." He said and held out his hand. His voice was like a sharp blade cutting your ears. It was deep and cold and sent me an uneasy wave. Something was off about him. I smiled and shook his hand. His skin was ice-cold and soft. A slight chill raced down my stiff spine.
"Pleasure as well, Mr. Sarr."
He walked out from behind his desk and he limped a little on his right foot.
"Welcome to the agency my friend. I assure you, you will like it here." He added.
"I'm sure I will." I replied.
He smiled and sat back down. We said our goodbyes and left from the office.
"A little weird isn't he?" Jared joked.
"Gives me the creeps."
"He does to all the newbies. Once you'll get used to him, he's very kind."
"We'll see."
We walked down to the office where we left my bags. I sat down on the tiny black couch while Jared did something on the computers. I looked around and saw a picture of Jared, Kristin and Carolyn. Kristin was younger and was wearing a blue shirt and black pants and smiling, revealing braces. Carolyn was weari a mid length casual violet dress and Jared a grey sweater and dark jeans. In the background, was the image of the golden gate bridge at sunset. It was lovely and I smiled at the sight of it.
"Alright, you'll be sleeping here tonight and tomorrow, we'll to your apartment." Jared snapped me back to attention.
"Apartment?"
"You have your own place. The agency's paying for your rent, mortgage, everything."
"Where is it?"
"It's close by. Downtown. It's a penthouse on the twenty-first floor of the Infinity apartments."
"Holy shit. That's for me?" I laughed.
"Yes ma'am. Everything in there is all yours. It's all furnished and ready to go."
I laughed and laid back on the couch. I yawned loudly and closed my eyes.
"Here." Jared said throwing a blanket at me from across the room. I wrapped myself in the warm fabric and kicked off my boots. I leaned against the couch pillows and they wrapped me in their comforting warmness. I sleepily gazed at the white bumpy ceiling above me. My eyes automaticlly shut and I drifted in and out of sleep. After a while, I entered a peaceful slumber.
-The next morning-
My eyes fluttered open and squinted at the light. The first thing I noticed was the freezing air. I yawned and I somehow ended up on the other side of the couch. I snuggled into my blanket. I heard the door open and Jared walked inside, he wasn't wearing his typical secret agent james bond spy suit. Instead he was in dark jeans, a dark navy sweater, and a black jacket. He wore black converse. He handed me a steaming cup of vanilla cappuccino.
