I continued to walk, alone. Almost there, just keep moving. That's what Buddy would say. My stomach rumbles. "Ugh! I'm so hungry!" It was late at night, and there I was. In the woods. Alone.
"Whats a little puppy doing out here?" I hear a scratchy ask.
"Who are you? Show yourself!"
"Tisk tisk tisk, no need to be scared."
"What?" The black figure turned grey. A wolf.
"You are in no harm. Ha ha ha ha... no harm. Classic!" The wolf howled. Three more shadows join him.
"Umm.....I don't want any trouble." I slowly back away, but bump into a wolf behind me.
"Just sit still, this won't hurt a little."
"IT'LL HURT A LOT!" A wolf buds in. They charge at me, but I crawl out of the pile of wolves. There are advantages to being small. "There 'e is! Get 'em!" The wolves chase me, I tried to run as fast as I did on that highway...oh god, don't remind me. I just managed to get that out of my head. Buddy....help me. Suddenly, I turn around and I see the wolves hunting a few chipmunks. That's convenient. I had no idea where to go. I was nothing without Bud. I see an owl, I've seen owls before. Bud was always good with the smart birds.
"Hey! Um, excuse me?" I shout at the owl. It looked at me. Then flew away. "Wow...rude." I say to myself. I start to walk away. But the owl lands in front of me.
"Bud?" The owl asked. "Is that really you?"
"Ummm...." I'm speechless. But then I choke out a word. "Yea." Why would I say that?
"Long time no see! What are you doing here? And why are you so tiny all of a sudden?" Wow, tjis guy had a lot of questions.
"I...uh...wen't threw a shrink spert."
"Shrink?"
"Yup. And I'm trying to get to Detroit."
"You're going the wrong way then."
"Wait, what?"
"Yea, it's that way." He used his long wings to point. "It's getting late, why don't you stay with me tonight?"
"Really?"
"Sure. I mean, why not?"
"Thank you so much!"
"Wait. Where's your little brother? Buster, I believe?" Think mind, think!
"He...uh...wen't his own way."
"You mean he, uh, died?"
"Yea, sure."
"Ouch, are you ok?"
"I'm..." If I say I'm fine, he won't closure me.
"No, I'm not ok. I miss him so much! Why Buster why?!?!?!?"
"Shhh, you don't want those wolves coming back."
"You saw the wolf thing?"
"Yup."
"Why didn't you help me?"
"Hmm, I've never known Bud to need help."
"I...uh... don't need help. That's crazy! I was testing you."
"Okay then." He looked at his feet. "Follow me, I'll bring you to my house."
"Ok." Then I started walking.
