"C'mon, move it. We aint got all day!" The wolf pushes me to the ground. "Now, get of your butt and start building!"
"What do I build it with?" I ask.
"Not my problem. Yours."
"Wait. Wha?"
"We'll be back in 3 hours. If it's not done, well...your gonna want it to be done. Hahaha. C'mon, let's go catch a bite. Oh! That reminds me, pick the quills outta that porcupine, would ya?"
"Well, I-"
"Great. Three hours isn't a long time, so be quick." Alpha Mako turned and walked away, his pack follow, as if they we're baby duck following their Mom. But one stopped. It looked at me.
"Don't mind him, he likes to be in charge." She smiled.
"If you don't mind me asking, who are you?"
"I'm the alpha female, Alpha Ala."
"Wait, so he is your...um...mate?"
"No, he is my father. My mother passed away two years ago, so I became the alpha female, being the only female in the pack. You don't know what it's like to lose someone you love."
"Actually I do, that's happened to me three times."
"Really? How-"
"Ala! C'mon! Don't communicate with the prisoner!" Alpha Mako interrupts.
"He's not a prisoner father! He's just a puppy!"
"Whatever! Now be good like your brothers and c'mon!"
"Good luck." She whispered. "Again, I'm really sorry."
"Now, Ala!" Alpha Mako barks. She turned around and started to walk away. "What do you even have to say to him?"
"Father, he's just a puppy."
"He may just be a puppy, but he's our puppy."
"But daddy..."
"Don't give me those puppy eyes." They walked too far away so I couldn't hear the rest. I looked over at Spike, who was motionless.
"Oh Spike."
"Oh Buster."
"Wait, what?" Spike opened his eyes and stood up. "Are the wolves gone?"
