Chapter 3:
“and a subordinate adverb clause is something that modifies the verb in the main clause.”
Writing class took a long time, even though it was my favorite subject. I wanted to just go to Classroom 2A and go away. I had already told Jeremy I didn’t want to hang around with him or anything. I wasn’t trying to sound rude or anything, but I didn’t need his help with anyone or anything. The bell had rung, “For Homework write a paper on who you think you are.” It was only nine ‘o'clock in the morning and I had history next and it isn’t my best subject.
Her name was Cassandra, she had long, red hair and long eyelashes. You could see her cheekbones. Her smile was almost to perfect. Cassandra had bright green eyes, they almost looked like the seaweed you would find on the beach. Her freckles seemed sun-baked, she looked like a very happy person. “My next class is in Classroom 2A, you can just follow me.I couldn’t believe I was actually making a friend, let alone one I was willing to stay friends with. Talking to her was like talking to my old best friend Kaylee. Kaylee had short blonde hair and she always wore it in a ponytail. She was a skater too, so we would go into the park after school and ride everyday. Both of us knew everything about each other, that was until we spread apart when her father died. He died from a cancer that spread to the brain. Kaylee never wanted to talk to anyone after that, even when they wanted to help. I guess that was kinda what I was like towards Jeremy. I remember how much it annoyed me when Kaylee built walls to keep people away. It made me feel unwelcome towards my best friend, but Cassandra wasn’t like that. Cassandra didn’t seem very sad ever. We walked to Classroom 2A. “Why did you seem so strange when Jeremy walked in?” I kinda felt my face turn strawberry red. “Did I really act strange?” Cassandra took a minute, “Yeah, a little.” I half-heartedly ignored it,the question, by asking, “Is he in our history class?”
“No.”
“Thank God.”
“What do you have against him?”I had to think about that one, I really didn't have anything against him other than my history with clichés,which didn’t even involve him. “It’s a long story.” I didn’t want to have to explain it all in the thirty seconds until we got to the classroom door. in not a huge cliché, but he was still one of the populars. I didn’t think it was him that was making me not like him, it was my history with clichés.I thought We weren’t late, infact, we were ten minutes early. The teacher was an older male, with sleek, slid back, grey hair. He was very tall and thin. The bell quickly rung after we got to class, “Hello students, some of you already know me, my name is Mr.Ion, and I want to start history class with the history of the future.” That statement mind-boggled me, but it seemed to make sense to everyone else in the room. “As some of you know, my favorite subject is war, so let’s begin by talking about a big one, let’s talk about World War Three.” After that I zoned out of class, all I could think about was how Jeremy wasn't there and why I had so much against him. He already showed me he was out of the ordinary ,as in not a huge cliché, but he was still one of the populars. I didn’t think it was him that was making me not like him, it was my history with clichés.I thought about telling him everything and just opening up, but I quickly changed my mind. I didn't feel like handing him a depressing timeline about myself to Jeremy. “...and that’s why you need to prepare for World War Three.”The bell rang. As soon as class ended Cassandra came to me, “What is your next class?”
“Classroom B, Math.”
“Deb can show you where that is.”
“Okay.” I wasn’t sure if I would like Deb, but I would give her a shot, because she knew Cassandra.
“Hey,I’m Deb, let’s get on our way, I would hate for you to be late to Mr.Sweeney’s class, especially on your first day.”
“Why , is Mr.Sweeney strict?”
“Well,he would be if he was physically here.”
“Where is he?”
“He’s at home this week, but next week he’ll be here,he’s on Skype or something to see us today.”
“Oh, okay, why doesn’t he just get a substitute?”
“He’s complicated like that, plus it's the first day of school.”
“Oh.”
After that conversation, we got to know one another. Deb has a heart disease, and she is currently looking for a new heart. Her favorite color is orange, she loves cats, her favorite subject is technology, and she is an orphan.I never thought that a person with so many “problems” would be so happy. We stopped walking which meant we made it to class. “Are you ready?”
“Yeah.” We walked in to see someone I did not want to see, Samantha smiled as soon as she saw me, the way she smiled made my stomach turn. “Okay class, my name is Mr.Sweeney, and the bell rung so get in your seats.” Everyone quickly ran to a seat, there was only one seat for me, and did didn’t want to sit there, it was right in front of Samantha.
