AN: Third Chapter! Hope y'all like it! I stayed up late finishing this, so you better be grateful, punk! XP

~~~
Two children stand atop a mound of golden flowers. A third child listens from the background, hardly able to believe in this miracle. Their brother, their best friend, might get to have the happy ending they deserve.
And they might get to have a happy ending too, even if they don't deserve it.
Chara watches the two as they plan. Frisk continued explaining to Asriel every little detail; how they once saw during a battle a strange white light glowing from one side of their soul, how they noticed that they felt emotions that they knew weren't their own. Like when the gave a statue an umbrella to keep dry and it started playing a song, they felt the strangest urge to cry.
Everything clicked into place when they visited the True Lab, and the battle with Asriel only strengthened their convictions. From then they started planning how they could save the two of them, once and for all.
Frisk was going to try and bring their soul out, without a battle to trigger it. Asriel was to do the same and, hopefully, when the two matching soul halves met each other they would form into one again. Asriel would be able to stay in his real body, and Chara could be brought back altogether.
But first, they had to dig up the body.
Frisk stood and started to pick the flowers growing above the grave. After they had made a large enough space to dig, they made them into a bouquet and laid them aside, then brought out two shovels. They began the slow, painful work silently. They could see tears darkening the dirt beneath Asriel, and soon their own patch of ground was wet too. To district them from the gruesome task, they tried to reach out to Chara.
You okay?
It was a few moments before they spoke.
I don't know. It all feels pretty strange, to have hope again.
Frisk smiled softly.
I promise, soon I'll be able to hold your hand.
I'd. . . like that.
Soon Frisk hit something hard. After a little more digging they came across a large wooden box, a makeshift coffin. Asriel and Frisk looked at one another, sadness and hope and memories mixing in their expressions. They, after a bit of a struggle, were able to lift the box up and out of the ground. The nice garden that used to be was now torn up and covered in dirt, save for the bouquet Frisk set aside beforehand.
Before they opened the coffin, Frisk took Asriel's hand. They have only known Chara for a short time; they knew Asriel, who had known and missed them for years, was having a much harder time. The both of them loved Chara immensely though, no matter how long they had known them. Chara, though just a spirit, could feel their love, and it made them feel strong.
They all were filled with determination.
Asriel and Frisk unlocked hands and slowly lifted the top of the casket. Inside Chara's body was perfectly persevered, the white of their skin the only tell of their death years ago. Their lips were parted and eyes closed, it was like looking at someone sleeping. They wore a striped sweater, green and gold to match Asriel's, that fit perfectly, unlike Frisk's oversized one. A chain with a golden heart hung around their neck, and the words Best Friend Forever were written on it.
Asriel gasps and slowly, careful, picked up Chara's cold hand. He held it in his and rubbed it like he was trying to bring them some warmth. Frisk moved to their other side and did the same. Seeing Chara like this, unresponsive and yet tragically beautiful, made the tears they had been holding back for Asriel's sake fall.
After a little while filled with mourning, Frisk looked up at Asriel with swollen eyes. "A-Are you ready?"
He nodded. Frisk sighed, nerves tightening their breath. "Okay, I-I'll go first."
They let go of Chara's hand and brought them both to their chest. They weren't even sure if this would work, trying to take their soul out without a battle. They shut their eyes tight and focused all of their determination on their soul. The pictured what it would be like to go to the surface with Asriel and Chara both by their side. They pictured both their faces bright in sunlight, tears of happiness instead of grief. Warmth and hope and love filled their entire being and they opened their eyes to see a red light shining from their hands.
Their soul was bright and almost seemed to be breathing. At first glance it looked like a normal human soul, but when you looked closer you could barely see a small white light shining from one side. The other side too seemed to glow more brightly than the other, determination shining from what Frisk knew to be part of Chara's soul. Asriel stared in wonder for a few moments before asking, "How did you do it?"
"Just picture something hopeful, something that fills you with love. Stay focused on bringing the soul out."
Asriel nods and closes his eyes. It takes him a little longer, but soon another light, dimmer than Frisk's but still there. He lift's it up so Frisk can see: two halves, one bright white and one red. Frisk holds their soul out above Chara's body and Asriel does the same. All of them, including Chara, hold their breath.
Frisk feels a slight tug, first weak but then stronger and stronger. Asriel grits his teeth, feeling the same odd sensation. Then a flash of light, gasps of air pulled from them both, and they fall from the force of the souls joining.
Frisk hurriedly stands and looks over at Asriel. He now holds an entirely monster soul, an upside down white heart. He absorbs it gently and smiles up at Frisk. Frisk smiles and laughs with him. Then they look to Chara.
A red whole soul floats above there still body. Slowly, Frisk reaches out and guides it to their chest and it is absorbed. Frisk and Asriel watch them, looking for any sign of movement. They wait for many long seconds, minutes, hours, before two eyes carefully open.
A smile breaks over their entire face, and Chara speaks.
