I could only watch my twin from across the way; she was sitting with a boy I didn't know and was staring at the fire like an idiot. Who was that boy next to her? I was tempted to walk over there and find out, but a hand on my arm stopped me. I looked up to see L.Joe looking at me with pleading eyes.

"Please just let them be. Niel needs her right now," He said.

"Needs her? Why?"

"It's a long story."

I gave him a sharp look. "We have plenty of time."

He put a hand on my arm and lead me away from everyone else. "A few months back, Niel had his heart completely shattered by a girl. He was so in love with her and they had been together for almost two years. Niel thought she loved him, but that changed one day. We were bored and decided to go to a local arcade. We were walking around when we saw Niel's girlfriend making out with some random guy. It broke Niel down instantly. I wanted to go and hit her, but I held myself back. Anyway, we went to follow Niel out of the arcade cuz he had run out of there at a blazing fast speed. And I don't blame him for that. But when we got outside, he was nowhere to be seen. Niel was gone for a week. We had looked and looked for him, but couldn't find him. He showed up back at our dorm after a week, still broken as hell. We were able to clean him up and make sure he stayed alive, but this is the first time since then that he's been out like this. He usually just holes himself up in his room. When I heard what he did to Rayne, I made him apologize. When I found them, they were actually talking and she was able to make Niel laugh. He hasn't laughed or smiled in months. He needs her right now. She is helping him more than she knows."

I nodded and was silent for a minute as I took it all in. But something stuck in my mind. "What did he do to Rayne?"

"He told me that he said her toy was childish and she shouldn't have it. He realized that he shouldn't have said that after his brush with Kris."

I thought back to how I had found Rayne's panda half-buried out at the bottom of a tree. Was it because of what Niel had said? "What happened between Kris and Niel?"

"Niel told me that Kris had seen Rayne run away and demanded to know why he had made her cry. Kris punched him and explained how much the panda meant to her."

"Kris punched Niel?"

L.Joe nodded. "Yeah. It shocked the hell out of Niel, but he didn't fight back."

"I'll let them be for now, but if he ever makes my sister cry again, there's gonna be hell to pay."

"I don't think Niel will hurt her. He's too afraid. I'm more worried about her hurting him."

"Rayne isn't the kind of person to hurt someone. She's quite loving."

"Then they will be friends."

"Unless something else happens."

L.Joe looked at me. "I don't think that will happen."

"Why not?"

"Niel is still pretty hurt over Nikki."

"Nikki?"

"Yeah. His ex's name."

I knew that name. Could it be the same Nikki that I had seen at school every now and then? We were loosely friends so I didn't know much about her. Come to think of it, she had boosted she went out with a celebrity but wouldn't say who. I figured that it was probably the Nikki L.oe was talking about.

"You want some food?" L.Joe kindly asked.

"Sure."

"Just stay here. I'll be right back."
