Chapter No.10: A Party of Humiliation
~Anna P.O.V~
"Dear students, today is the last day of school before summer vacation. The staff here hope you have an amazing summer and that you have fun," the principle addressed to the students in the auditorium. "But don't waste your precious time. Happy Summer Vacation."
Oh, please. This is only summer vacation, not the beginning of World War III.
I was not the one who was having a boring time. Many kids had worn out faces like they just wanted to move out. After ten minutes of a lengthy speech, we were dismissed. People ran back to their lockers, more like escaping. I walked to my locker to took my stuff. I saw Emily with some purple and yellow cards she was distributing all around the hall.
"Hey, what's up with this?" I asked her as she handed me a purple poster.
"Oh! It's a party invite. I figured since school is over for a few months, we should party. So why not at my house?" she replied excitedly.
This was not a normal Emily. With every aspiring day she was becoming more like a cliché popular girl who only cared for her reputation. She said we, which was far out of her usual personality.
"But... will there be a lot of people there, including you know who?" I hesitated as I looked at the pile of posters in her hands. I was hoping for the best because my life included her.
"I don't want to hear any excuses. You have to come and that's final," she insisted as she stopped any of my worries from flying out of my mouth.
She gave me a glare.
"Um... okay, I will." I folded the poster, slipping it into my back pocket.
This might not be a bad experience.
School seemed like it ended within seconds of the announcements. I drove my car back to home and during driving I saw many shops for dresses for party but I didn't have money at that time. Reaching home, I rushed to my room and open my closet. My closet was full of normal clothes which includes sweat pants, plain tops and some over sized pants. There was nothing close to fancy.
I crashed on the couch in the living room and scrolled through my phone on the Kohl's website. I've never been to a party before. I wonder if a fancy dress is too much, I worried as I scrolled through the dress category. There were short, fancy, floral, and cocktail dresses, but none of them seemed like the right size.
"Anna?"
I looked up and quickly turned my phone off in surprise. Mom stood over me with curiosity and confusion written on her face.
"Do you need more clothes?" she asked as she looked at me.
I sat up and pulled the poster out of my back pocket. I handed it to her and began to explain.
"I don't have any party dresses." I finished as I tucked my phone away.
I felt dread as I saw my mom's eyes darken as a plan began to form in her mind.
"How about a shopping spree?" she asked excitedly.
I looked at her shocked, before a wide smile touched my face. She was happy because, first time I was interested in shopping. It was not like I hate shopping, but with a size twenty, I hesitated to shop.
Mom drove us straight to the Kohl's store. We went inside as the rose fragrance welcomed us. Walking to the clothing racks, I started to search for a dress which was my size.
