Austin's POV

_____

I returned to school the next day, after an afternoon of skating with Tino and Phil, I felt ready to face Alan. They both had chewed me out about hurting his feelings, but in the end, I knew they agreed with me. I wasn't the type of person to lead someone on and hurt them further. I didn't want to hurt anyone at all. So I stepped out of my house that morning, the sun immediately hitting me and reminding me of it's presence. I walked towards the bridge not too far from my house and I could see Kellin standing there with something in his hands. No bookbag in sight. I felt a smile on my face as I walked over to him. He smiled at me when I was in front of him.

"Hey, Aus, I heard you were sick." Kellin said to me. I shrugged. "You feeling any better?"

"I played hookey. So I'm fine." I told him. He raised an eyebrow. He was the only person who questioned what I meant when I said I was fine. No one else did. Everyone else just accepted the response and carried on with the conversation. "How're you?"

"I've been better. But it's okay." He told me. "My mom still hasn't come home." I was the only person who knew that Kellin's mom hadn't been home in almost a week. I wanted to hug him tightly and tell him that I cared about him, even if no one else did.

"You can always come over if you want." I told him. "Ya know, if you're lonely."

"I don't know where you live." He stated flatly. I searched out my house and pointed to it.

"There, but I'll write it down for you, give me your hand." I shrugged off my bookbag and took out a pen. He didn't flinch, in his hands a brown bag, a twine bow tying the bag closed. "What's that?" He bit his bottom lip as a blush spread across his cheeks.

"I made brownies, and I figured you'd like some." He replied shyly. He extended the bag to me and I grinned at him. Sometimes, he was just too cute. I took the bag from him and was about to put it into my bag when he spoke again. "Could you eat one now? I know it might be weird, but I'd like to know what you think of them now." I shook my head at him playfully and opened the bag, taking out a brownie and biting into it. His eyes were hopeful and wide, awaiting my judgment. I noticed that one of his eyes looked a bit darker than the other. I swallowed the chunk of heaven and stared into his eyes.

"That was fucking amazing. Thank you." I told him. He giggled a little. I closed the bag and put the brownies carefully into my bookbag. "I'll eat them at lunch."

"Okay." He fell silent, a small smile on his lips. "You know, every time we've talked before school, on this sidewalk, I've ran away from you." I thought about it for a second.

"You're right. Why do you run from me?"

"Because I'm a monster, and you should probably stay away from me."

"C'mon, Kells, you're far to adorable to be a monster." He blushed ever harder at my words.

"Aus, you shouldn't say things like that." He mumbled out as he dropped his head.

"Why?"

"Because...when you do, that makes...no. I shouldn't say that."

"What? What shouldn't you say?" I asked him, bending down, so that I was closer to him. He looked up at me, our eyes meeting. He bit his bottom lip softly, and without warning, he pulled me by my hair closer to him and kissed me. I was shocked for a second, frozen, but as his lips moved against mine, I couldn't help but relax into the kiss. I wrapped my arms around him gently and he laced his arms around my neck, his fingers lost in my hair. He pulled back and stepped away from me, our arms falling from around each other.
