Asha ran, not looking back, she cried whilst she ran through the marsh land avoiding puddles that would leave her to the same fate as Ray. She ran till she gasped at the air, winded by her chest racking sobs. This was a wasteland and there was nothing for miles. I watch silently, I could interfere but I wish to keep my contact with humans at a minimum. After all, she will only blame me for all this. She slumps to the ground, the gray sky grumbling over head and the wind toying with her brown locks. The fatigue is obvious in her face, her eyes are heavy, face drawn, skin pale and she's lost weight, lots of it.

She sits there for hours until darkness falls, creeping into the land like fog. Her brown hair falls in front of her face, she seems content as if its a private place for her to mourn. When the night fully invades she is still sat motionless, entranced in thought. The shadows are too thick to make out much of this deserted landscape and when Asha snaps out of her daze she exhales fearfully. She's vulnerable.

I ponder as she stands, is she scared? Petrified? Worried? Her chances of survival lessen as the temperature drops and the night invades. Who knows what horrors face her out here? I mean I do, but we aren't talking about me. Asha shivers and wraps her arms tighter around Petal, trying to warm them both. She turns around, clearly dumbfounded at her next choice in direction and walks off randomly, muttering to herself.

From somewhere far off there's a howl, and Asha flinches, quickening her pace. She's running blind and scared, and that's not a good combination. She slips multiple times, turning so she lands on her back and not the piglet, when she scrambles up she carries on in a drunken run, not caring for where she's headed. Then it starts to rain, and its not pretty as Asha screeches out as its high acidity content hits her hands, lucky for her, she's kept her hood up. She sees a plank of wood leaning against the rock, its not huge, but its enough to shield her from the deathly tears that the sky cries. She stays there until the tears stop and the storm calms, an eerie silence envelopes the landscape and she shivers. I feel pity for her again, maybe she's weaker than I thought, I guess I should leave her to die. But, she stands again, I'll give her points for persistence.

There is a little light coming from somewhere far off and she looks at that and walks with a thoughtful expression. She's both mentally and physically drained so it's no surprise when she slips and skids down slope into a large lake of peat. She goes under and bobs up the panic setting in. She still holds the piglet, who isn't complaining about the large vat of grime, and chucks her onto the stable ground a few meters away, the pig scrambles up and sits at the side, grunting and squealing at Asha's efforts to get out. She struggles, kicking her legs and using her hands to pull her across the semi permeable surface, but alas, its getting her nowhere and she stops and her eyes water, creating clear channels down her mud stricken face. She turns to the piglet and croaks, her throat getting tighter.

"I failed you Petal, I'm sorry, I failed mam and dad too, and James and Ray! I miss Ray Petal, I miss them all!" She sobs "I'm not ready to die! Oh God no! I can't.... No yet, I...I...still wanted to see the world and become a nurse so I could help people! And now I'm going to die? " The sobs rack her tiny frame and I causes the pull of the bog to get stronger. Petal just lies down, not wanting to leave her and stretches her snout out, which Asha reaches out to pat. "You go Petal, go and find somewhere safe, find a new family," she pushes the pigs snout away and the piglet just waits patiently "go Petal!" But its no use, pigs are loving creatures and even more loyal when it comes to family. Asha gives up and shakes her head looking up at the sky "if I'm going to die, please don't let it be here, no one will find me and....and...I won't be remembered." If Death answers her prayers, we can only wait and see, but seriously, you humans and your want to be remembered, even if its by one person, it puzzles me.

For the last few minutes above the surface of the bog, Asha just looks at the sky and mutters silently, I think she's asking for forgiveness and when she can no longer keep her mouth above, she accepts her fate and takes one last breath of the cool air, disappearing under the muddy death trap, her existence is nothing but a bubble.

And so my friends that is the story of how the last two worthy beings struggled against the Earths challenges and died.

The End.
