Today, when Elena opened her eyes, she saw a room full of light. The sun streaming through her window made everything brighter and more beautiful. The perfect weather for the perfect day, she thought. And it was true. Today was her graduation. The day she'd been waiting for all her life. She wished her parents could be there with her, looking at her with eyes full of pride and happiness. Sometimes she asked herself if her parents would be proud of her. She knew her parents hated vampires and she had been involved in all the supernatural stuff for a long time. Maybe since she was born, it was her destiny. Maybe because even she herself was supernatural. Well, it's true that I'm not normal, I've never been and never will; and I like it that way, she thought.
But she pulled aside those thoughts and focused on what was important: she was wearing that wonderful dress Damon had bought for her and he was coming to pick her up. Which reminded her, she needed to get ready if she didn't want to be late.
She rushed to her bathroom and took a shower. Then she went back to her room and changed in the beautiful dress. She went downstairs and when she reached the kitchen Jeremy and Jenna looked at her like they just saw an angel.
"Elena, sweetie you're beautiful!" Jenna told her. "Where did you get that gorgeous dress?"
"Damon insisted on buying it for me and you guys know when Damon wants something..."
"Yeah, there's no way to talk him out of it." Jeremy spoke for the first time.
"Yep. By the way, there's no need you guys drive me there, Damon's picking me up."
"Ok." Jenna replied. "What happened last night, huh? You went straight to bed and didn't even have dinner."
"I know Jenna and I'm sorry I didn't tell you a thing. I was exhausted because I hadn't slept at all the night before." Elena explained. She looked up the clock in the kitchen and saw it was 11:27. "Damon's coming anytime so why don't you guys leave me alone with him."
Jeremy left, but Jenna stayed just to ask her one question.
"Don't you think for a second I forgot. Did you tell him?"
"No Jenna, I didn't have time. I'll tell him today." I hope, she thought.
"Ok, just tell him already. The more you delay it, the worse."
"I will. Thanks Jenna, see you later." And Jenna disappeared in the living room.
Right in that moment, there was a knock in the door. When Elena opened the door her heart stopped. There he was, Damon, dressed in a tuxedo with a navy blue tie that matched his eyes perfectly.
"Hi." she said, astonished.
"Hello Elena. You look beautiful."
"So do you." she said, blushing.
"Shall we?" he offered her his arm, just like day the before.
"We shall." she answered, taking it.
When they got to high school, they made her way to the gym. When she arrived, she greeted her friends Caroline, Bonnie, Tyler and Matt and joined them.
"Oh, hi Elena." Caroline said. "Where have you been these days?"
"Look Caroline I'm sorry I left you guys there alone in the mall but you have to understand that Damon's almost everything to me now. I'm focused on him and I don't want to fight with you girls. I just want you to understand me. And respect me."
"Okay, Elena, we'll try to respect... whatever it is that you have with Damon." Bonnie spoke for the first time.
"Friendship, Bonnie. We're just friends. Very good friends."
