It had been two days since Jeremy arrived to the penthouse. Everything was fine -well, as fine as it could be- and Damon and Jeremy were getting along pretty well. Elena was happy about that, even though she remembered Jenna every single day. They didn't get out of the house often but it was nice in there so she didn't mind.

It was early December now and Seattle was even greyer. It rained every day and it had been snowing lately. Elena loved the snow and actually convinced Damon to let her out to enjoy it. And when he saw the smile in her face when he gave in, he didn't hesitate on joining her. He loved this time of the year secretly and Christmas had always been his favorite holiday. His and Stefan's.

Damon didn't tell Elena -and he hated that- but he'd been talking to Stefan these days just to know how was the situation in Mystic Falls, because he knew that Elena was dying to come back home. And the truth is that even though the bad vamps didn't have their fancy little daylight rings, they were difficult to kill and eliminate. Stefan told him that it was almost over, they wouldn't have to stay away for much longer.

Damon and Elena got out of the jacuzzi after hours of relaxing and making love to each other. Then they wrapped themselves with the towels and Damon started to stroke Elena's messy hair.

"What are you doing?" she asked, amused.

"Nothing, I just like your hair." he replied.

"But it's all messy and wet."

"Still, I don't know. I like it." he shrugged.

"Well, ok. Carry on then." But Elena knew there was something else. She could practically see the wheels working in Damon's head. "Spill Salvatore." she said to him.

"What?" he asked her, confused.

"Damon, tell me what's in your mind. I can tell right away there's something going on. Tell me."

"It's nothing really. It's just that I've been thinking that, you always wanted a family and everything and I can't give you that and maybe it's better if you-"

"Damon stop." she said with a serious tone. Then she turned to face him and took his hands. "We've been through a lot together, ok? And yes, my dream was always a family and children and all but now you are my dream Damon. To wake up with you every morning for the rest of my life and see you smile and just be with you. That's all I'm asking for. I don't need anything if I have you." Elena finished and gently pressed her lips against his. He wrapped his arms around her waist and deepened the kiss.

"I love you." he whispered in her lips. And a wide smile appeared on her face while replying "love you too."

Then they got out of the bathroom into their room and got dressed. When they got out of their room, they found Jeremy sitting on the couch and talking with someone on the phone.

"It's Alaric." Damon whispered in Elena's ear. "Do you want some hot chocolate?" he asked her, in a higher tone.

"Yes please." she replied, smiling. Damon went to the kitchen and Elena sat beside her brother. A few seconds later he ended the call.

"Hey, who was it?" Elena asked, playing dumb.

"Alaric. He called to tell me that Jenna's funeral was yesterday and that almost the whole town was there. Caroline and Bonnie made a speech and so did Ric. A lot of people were asking for us. Comments like 'where are them?', 'they should be here', etc." Elena's face fell to the ground when she heard the last sentence.

They should be here.

And right in that moment, Damon emerged from the kitchen with two mugs of hot chocolate; one for Elena and one for Jeremy. And he poured himself a glass of bourbon. Then he saw Elena's face and tried to defend them.
