a boat came to the harbor

on a windy day filled

with dark clouds.

i had been sitting in the café

that was near the beach,

looking out the window

when i saw it.

i felt this jolt in my chest

and my heart beat furiously as

i watched.

it was when the men started to exit,

that i sprinted out the door,

sand flooding my shoes and

sliding between my toes.

i jumped onto the harbor with

unsteady feet and pushed my

way through the crowd.

i started calling your name,

a desperate ache in my voice as i searched.

i waited until the gray night,

when the harbor was empty and

the café lights went out.

and i dangled my feet over the edge of the harbor

and watched as my tears fell against the sea.
