The hour was late. The Darktree Cemetery lay quiet in the darkness. A continual layer of grey fog rolled along the ground, an eerie fog not usually found here, not until earlier that night when the necromancer Molan had arrived and turned everything in the sleepy town of Milllersfield upside down.
Rian still worried about his mother, who was being held by Molan ... if she were even alive. If it weren't for his brother, Kye, Molan couldn't have made all these skeletons and zombies that were now threatening the town. Somehow, they had to be stopped, but Rian dreaded what they might have to do in the coming fight. He pushed these thoughts aside and concentrated on the attack on the graveyard.
Rian rode with Harlan in the truck as he sped down the road towards the campground, with disregard for the fog. "You should never have let Haley go into the graveyard--especially not with Anya. What were you thinking?" said Harlan.
"I didn't," said Rian. "They went in on their own."
"And you should have sent them right back out," said Harlan.
Rian didn't really expect Harlan to approve of this--but Haley was in a position to help them right now. "I'm sorry. But getting them out would have been just as dangerous."
"They shouldn't be anywhere near there."
"I know. But Haley is 17 now. She's nearly an adult."
"Hmph. And remember, she doesn't have a weapon. I mean, I don't think she does. Does she?" asked Harlan, fretting. Rian didn't know.
"Jenna will get them out," said Rian. "Don't worry." At least, he hoped she would. Haley's mom was quite a warrior.
Edward, Ray and Zane sat in the back of the truck. Ehina sat up front with Harlan and Rian.
The truck burst down the gravel campground road down almost to the lake. There was an unused, overgrown path back there that ran back up to the crypt. Rian was hoping that this area might be clear and they could slip into the graveyard undetected.
They had one goal: to get Ehina into the crypt and through to the other dimension so she could teleport back to her homeworld for help. If the other groups did their jobs, the skeletons and zombies should be distracted, giving Rian's group the chance they needed to make this assault.
Rian check in on his walkie-talkie as arrived. "Haley, you there?" asked Rian.
"Yes." Her voice was almost a whisper, as though to avoid being overheard. "Hasn't changed much. There are a lot of skeletons in the area near me. They are spread out over most of the cemetery. Also, there are a lot of zombies."
"Any sign of Molan?"
"No. He was out awhile ago, but he went back into the crypt."
"And Kyran?" asked Rian. The thought of Kyran left a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. If only this hadn't happened to Kyran. If only there were some other way.
"I'm afraid not," she said.
"Thanks," he said, trying not to let the emotion show in his voice. "Let me know if anything changes."
"I will."
Rian was counting on the situation to change once the battle started. At his signal, they began the assault.
"All right, go ahead," said Rian.
"Copy that," said Jenna.
Now, they just had to wait while Jenna and the others began the attack. They got out of the truck. Rian went over near the cemetery fence and used his binoculars to try and see what was going on.
