You asked him to run away with you...

He refused...

You asked him to marry you...

He pushed you away...

But you knew he loved you...

Draco Malfoy was the love of your life, you had been together for two years in secret. A secret to keep you safe, but it also broke your heart.

You stood next to Hermione as you watched him go to his parents...ripping your heart out one final time.

Everything Voldemort said didn't matter...and you couldn't care less about what happened to you.

You were an American with war in your muggle-born blood...you would go down fighting if need be.

You stepped forward, walking passed Neville in the middle of his speech. The whole of the crowd, even Voldemort fell silent as you approched the Dark Lord...tears streaming down your face.

"You...you wish to betray them...? After all this time- for Draco...?" Voldemort asked, "Is he worth dying for?" he asked with a raised, hairless brow.

You looked passed him to Draco who stared at you with worry in his eyes. You flashed him a sad smile, "Always..." she quoted her favorite teacher, "...but I'm not betraying them," you said in monotone as a piece of broken window glass slid down your sleeve as your sad smile remained.

Voldemort was confused, "What-!" you cut him off, grabbing the back of his neck and driving the razor sharp glass into his chest...right into his heart.

"See you in hell, Tom..." you snarled before ripping out the glass and jamming the glass into his neck.

You watched him hit the ground and Harry fell from Hagrid's arms, Draco throwing his wand to him- surprising you- and with one Avadacadavra...Voldemort was done, his bloodied body floating away in ashes.

You dropped the glass and it shattered as your fists clenched. "It's done! It's all done! And so am I...with all of it!" you shouted and pushed your way forward, your bloody hands leaving few prints behind as you shoved your way through the crowd of Death Eaters, most of whom were jumping away from you.

You just wanted to go home...

***

You sat in the kitchen of your family home, all the way back in the U.S. of A.

You stared down into your cup of coffee, saying...and feeling nothing.

It had been several days since the battle...but you were still back there, seeing it all play out, watching people die...wondering what you could've done differently...

You grit your teeth, about to throw your coffee, hearing a familiar creek of a door didn't stop you though...the mug went flying and struck the door frame, clattering to pieces.

When you heard a gasp, you realized that someone had been entering the kitchen through that door. You looked up...and saw that it was Draco.

"How did you get into my house? I set the doors locked with riddle charms," you asked, almost sounding callous.

Draco frowned, "Who else knows you well enough to get passed the riddles? I had to see you," he said, about to take a step forward, but paused when you let your hand rest over your wand on the table.

You narrowed your eyes, "You made it very clear that you never wanted to see me again when I proposed and you broke up with me," your words were cold.

Draco took a deep breath and took a step into the kitchen, "I had to send you away to keep you safe...but now it's over...and I came to see if there was anything salvageable," he said with hurt in his voice.

"Why not send a letter or even call me on a phone? America is a bit far from England, Draco," your anger was mounting.

He bit his lip for a second and his right hand found his pants pocket. You noticed his attire...a fine black suit with a dark, emerald green shirt with a black and gold striped tie. His hair was finely combed as well, without the gel.

He looked...different...better...

"Because, sending a letter or calling might've made things worse. I-...I needed to ask you in person...for more than your forgiveness," he said as he pulled something from his pocket, "I made it passed your mother, and your father, and I asked his blessing..." he sounded so nervous, his hands were visibly shaking.

You stood up from your chair, your heart aching at this point, your breath all but non-existent.

"Draco...what-..." he got down on one knee in front of you, your wand forgotten on the table, "...oh my god..." your heartbeat quickened and your throat formed a knot, which clenched as he held up a small, dark blue velvet box.

"This-...this ring was my grandmother's...my father's mother's, who passed it to my mother," Draco said as he opened the box to reveal a blue diamond, set in a black platinum band with smaller white diamonds surrounding it on a lotus flower shaped crown...like beams of light reflecting off of a blue star I'm the night sky.

Draco took a deep breath to calm himself...then his blue eyes met your e/c orbs, "Y/n L/n...will you give an unworthy man a second chance and make-" you cut him off.

"No," you said in monotone and he looked like his heart shattered on the spot.

"What?"

"I won't give an unworthy man a second chance...because I've never thought of you as anything less than the best thing that's ever happened to me," you smiled warmly as tears filled your eyes and he looked absolutely mystified, "...so, not an unworthy man...but I will give the love of my life another chance," you giggled lightly and he beamed like the sun, tears pooling in his own eyes.

"Does that mean-...Y/n, will you marry me...?" he asked with so much hope and need...

"Yes..." you said quietly and it took him a moment to register your answer, "Yes! Draco Malfoy, I will marry you! I will!" you said more excitedly and he took another deep breath.

"You will...?" you nodded, "You will?! Bloody hell! Oh my god-" he took a moment to slip the ring on your finger...a perfect fit. He stood up and pressed his lips to yours in passionate kiss, full of burning longing and desperation, which you gladly returned. The kiss had so much force that you found yourself pushed back, sitting on the kitchen table as your hands ran through his silver blonde hair...oh, how you missed the feeling of his hair...

The sound of your mother clearing her throat made your lips jump apart, but you still held one another.

"Well...good, you're not dead and my girl is happy," she smiled proudly, "but...if you ever hurt my little girl again- so help me God- no magic in the world will keep you safe, understand, Malfoy...?" she asked very seriously and Draco nodded.

"Of course, Mrs L/n."

"Good, son...and you can call me Mom from now on...and lemme see the ring! Oh my gosh!" she rushed into the kitchen, giggling and carrying on.

You couldn't be happier...you were marrying the man of your dreams and your parents approved.

You looked forward to the days of peace to come...
