Chapter 10 - Surprise Visits From Our Saint

(A/N: I made some mistakes and published it like that. I fixed them now, it makes a lot more sense to read this lol.)

Our doorbell rang at ten in the evening.

It came as quite a surprise to both me and Mom, since no one is really ever at our door. At most, it's our maid, Anna, who comes to our house - but even then she calls Mom before coming through the door. None of my friends ever come to my house, and after this morning, none of them will be coming. Imogen's been here a few times, nonetheless, it couldn't have been her that rang the doorbell.

Unless she found out all about what happened back here and decided to grab a plane ride from Australia back to Portland. Bless if that actually happened, I would probably hug her and never let her go.

But Mom made me face the reality of who was actually behind the door, sending me off to open it since she was on the phone with Tiff.

For a secretary, she sure did have to help Mom with a lot more things.

"Piper, the door!" She called, covering the end of her phone with her petite hands. I rolled my eyes at her second mention, and slowed myself down whilst on the way to the door.

"Yeah, yeah."

The doorbell was followed by a disorganised series of soft knocks that echoed throughout the hollow rooms. I uncover the peephole and bring my right eye in to it, examining the person at the door who'd be ringing and knocking at this time of night.

The familiar face stood straight, left hand holding tightly on to a briefcase and the other holding a large white bag. His suit jacket draped over his shoulder, and his tie weakened slightly. I could never forget the clean shaven face and slow receding hairline of the man that was a doors distance from me. I rush myself to open the door, unlocking and fumbling around with the door handle. As soon as the block between us is gone, I jump in to the warm arms of Dad, ignoring the humidity that stuck on to the bare skin on my legs and arms.

"Poppy," he mumbled on top of my head, kissing it repeatedly. My arms struggle to let go of his waist as I hear Mom call my name.

"Piper! Who is it!" Her voice hoarse, probably from talking so much to Tiff in her squeals. The footsteps of her slippers flopping through the marble floors becomes louder until I can hear her stop dead in her tracks and go silent. "Tiff. I'll call you later," and I felt as though she was going to drop her phone.

"Hollie, hey," Dad brings his hand up for a nonchalant wave. I've let go of him at this point, but I make sure I'm still in contact with his arm.

"Paul. Hi," Mom clears her throat and fixes her posture, glaring at Dad in her most judgemental way. Her arms cross each other and feet stuck together as if taped tightly to prevent her from moving around. Which, was typical. All three of us knew that she was holding herself back from running up to Dad and wrapping her arms around his neck while kissing him passionately. All three of us also know that she refuses to do it because of her unbelievable strong stubbornness, I don't blame her.

I love Dad. He's truly an amazing man, hard-working, honestly caring, funny, truthful. He'd shown himself to be a man who could do no wrong, and outstandingly smart CEO of one of the most heavily funded electronic businesses in the world. But I know still who he is, and Mom knows very well too, and though I look up to him more than anyone else in the world, I do not condone Dad's actions, and have talked to him about it repeatedly.

I always got the same answer. 'I know darling, I know,'. But he doesn't know. If he really knew, he would've stopped by now, but it's become nearly a new girl every weekend, a new body to discover and wreck. Whether they're twenty three, or forty three, they all fall down to Dad's body, specifically his crotch. Disgusting to think about, even more awful to realise it's your dad over anyone else's, and it's the person you look up to that's done one of the most shameful actions.
