Alexei's POV:

Back home at last. Of course the ceremonies and celebrations and parades took up more of the day than I would have liked them to, but I guess the public was really excited for us to be home. Though I was tired I rushed up to my room to my desk, pulled out a piece of paper, and began to write my first letter to Ileana.

"Dear Ileana,"
Now what? What should I say? Hello? No, I could write that to anyone. This had to be special.
"I have just come home from our journey back to Russia."

Well duh, it was a journey home. No that wasn't going to work.

"My heart beats only to see you again,"

Yeah, because that's totally something that I would write. This had to be real.
That's it!

" This is the first letter that I'm writing to you, and it's probably going to be a mess."

This was all true. Not bad, but not good either.

"I miss you, wow that makes me sound like a love sick puppy. But I do, a lot. I'm not good at writing, an obvious fact by this point, so I'm just going to say what I mean."

Yes, just say exactly what I mean. Good grief, this shouldn't be so hard.

"I miss you. I love you. I don't know how to write it so it sounds more romantic, but those are the plain facts. I think about you every waking moment, and dream about you too. Every time I think about waiting for four years, I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall. The more I think about you, the harder it gets to live without you. But I'm going to do it anyway. I'm an idiot. But then again, I did have the common sense to fall in love with you, and that's the smartest thing I've ever done. I miss your hair, your eyes, your smell, your voice, everything. So if you can, send your lovesick idiot a letter, soon.

Your personal idiotic fiancé,
A.N.R.
Alexis Nicholaevitch Romanov

P.S. I deeply apologize for this being the weirdest letter you've ever gotten. Don't worry, there's more on the way.
Love,
Alexei"

I put it in an envelope, sealed it, addressed it, and then personally brought it to the post master and mailed it. Almost immediately afterwards I felt so nervous, I almost vomited. Now to wait.

The agony of an impatient and lonely lover, I assure you is the worst.
