Star of the Sea

Chapter 7 ~ V

I'm just staring of into space. I can't handle it anymore. If I go home, I'll be punished severely, but if I stay it could be worse. I push myself away from Josh and go to jump off when I'm pulled back by the shoulders. I'm turned and Josh's hazel eyes fill my vision. He searches my face, and he hardens into a look of steely determination. He cups both of my cheeks and leans forward, pressing our foreheads together.

"Promise me you'll be careful."

I kiss his nose and close my eyes. I know going home is not being careful. If I stay away though, harm could come to Josh and his friends. Especially if Lachlan and his gang came looking. I couldn't risk Josh being hurt. I had to go back and try to appease Lachlan. I move back and kiss Josh's forehead, willing as much of my magic as I can to transfer to him. I know that'll I'll eventually return, but I want him to be safe.

My tail is now throbbing with a dull ache. An excuse for my absence immediatelty comes to mind. I can claim that I was too hurt to swim back. It happens all the time

"Vik! Promise me!!"

I shake my head in dismay. I won't make an empty promise. Tears flow from my closed eyes and I feel Josh's tense posture relax.

"Star? I'm sorry for yelling... I don't want to lose you. I'm just... I'm scared Vik."

My eyes immediately open at his words. His head is hung embarrassingly, his cheeks reddened with blush. He was scared. My Josh is scared. I wrap my arms around him, nuzzling my face into his neck.

"I'm scared too Josh... I don't want to lose you either. I can't promise that I'll be safe, but I do promise that I'll come back. Even if you are in a different part of the sea, I'll search for you."

"I'll search for you too Vik. You are my queen, like the song. I'll never let you go."

I move so our lips are lined up and wait. I want him to kiss me. He can say he wants me, but I want him to show it. A bit petty, but given the circumstances, I'd say it's okay. He moves forward slowly, gently brushing our lips together. It isn't quick. It isn't lustful. It's loving, passionate. Full of love and yearning. Our hands explore slowly as well. Brushing touches. Fingertips against skin, never putting our hands fully on. Slowly, ever so slowly, we separate. Josh's breath glosses over my face. His hand comes up and moves a few hairs away from my eyes.

"Be safe love, please."

"I'll try."

We separate, me moving again to the edge of the rocks, and him moving back to give me and Tobi room. I conjure up a flower and pass it to him.

"So your dreams are sweet... and... loving."

"VIK! I'M NOT HEARING THIS!! LA LA LA."

I blush as Tobi yells at it. He knows what the flower will do. Josh head is tilted towards me with an eyebrow raised. I wave him off and blow him a kiss. He smiles and blows one back.

"Be safe."

I smile and turn back to the sea. Taking a deep breathe, I dive off, plunging myself into the cold ocean.
