Chapter 15 ~ V

I hold onto Tobi's shoulders as he carries me across the sea. Kiara swims around as we go, purring in concern when I groan. 

The journey somehow feels farther this time, but who am I to complain when I'm being tugged along.

I feel the current shift, an I know we are getting closer. Tobi slows his gait and dives deeper.

"Tobi?"

"Hang on."

We swim closer to the reef and I smile at what I see.

"Putting those gills to good use I see."

I feel Tobi shake with silent laughter as Josh turns around, eyes wide. He rushes forward and pulls me off of Tobi's back.

"VIK!"

He wraps his arms tightly around me, and he starts pulling as to the surface subconsciously. He couldn't help it, he's human. They kinda float.

We break the surface, an overprotective Tobi not far behind. I hear several cries of Josh's name, but I ignore them.

Josh's arms feel wonderful around me. I snuggle into them even more.

"What happened Vik?"

He pulls me head up and cups my cheek, carefully stroking the bruised skin with his thumb. I go to answer, but get cut off.

"MONSTER!"

I turn to look at the boy who's screaming, then direct my attention to what he's pointing at. I roll my eyes at him.

"Kiara. Aaie."

My over friendly ray glides over and cuddles close. I feel Josh tense, but then relax. Cautiously, he extends his arm and pets Kiara.

I turn back to the sandy haired boy and glare.

"Kya aapane kabhee ek stringe nahin dekha?"

The boy tilts his head in confusion at my words. I hear Tobi stifle a giggle before taping me on the shoulder.

"Unake saath gadabad karana chaahate hain?"

"Beshak, Tobi. Yah uchit hee hai. Aakhirakaar, unhen isaka istemaal karana padata hai."

"Bevakoophon."

Tobi and I's heads snap to the uncertain voice. There, Simon treads water looking sheepish.

"Did I say it right?"

"Yeah, Cal teach you?"

"A few words."

We all share a nod of solidarity and I turn back to Josh. His lips are curved in a slight smile, and I want to fix that. I pull his head down and smash our lips together.
