A/n: yes I know they don't talk like this in this period of time, but I'm not going for historical accuracy.

I will publish a new chapter every time I finish writing one. That means inconsistent updates <3

(If there are any mistakes let me know so I can fix them, I'm very tired and didn't edit much)

------------
At the sound of yelling, I dive off the rock. My tail hits the formation as I go down, but I'm in too much of a hurry to care. I swim to the other side and resurface. I can hear the footsteps of the yeller draw closer to where I left Josh. I trust he won't reveal the fact that I was there. Poseidon knows how much trouble I'm already in. Adding being caught to the list would be a prison sentence. No one wants to end up like Cal.

I slowly creep along the edge, almost making it back to where Josh is. I see his legs dangled over the edge.

"We thought you had drowned or somethin'."

I duck under as another set of legs flings themselves over. This person being barefoot compared to the coverings on Josh's.

"Nah, just... admiring the view."

I see Josh's face peek over the edge and I poke my face out of the water. I give a small wave and smile. He returns the smile and leans back again. I prop my arms up on the rock and lean against it. While I adjusting on the rocks, I failed to notice that Josh's friend had leaned over the edge.

"HOLY SHIT!"

My head jerks in their direction and I stare up at them, frozen in fear. Josh tries to shush the person to no avail. He sends a sympathetic glance down to me.

"I FUCKING TOLD YOU! MERMAIDS ARE REAL! I'VE GOT TO GO GET EVERYONE!"

My eyes widen and I see Josh's panic spread across his face. His hand slaps across his friend's mouth, effectively silencing their ramblings. Though he still continues to talk with.

"Simon, fucking shut up!"

The ramblings stop and Josh peeks back over the edge. He motions towards me. I take that as he wants me to climb up there with them. I shake my head in fear. No way am I going anywhere near the word spewer.

"Vik, love. It's okay. He won't hurt you."

I cautiously begin to climb, wincing every time my tail brushes against the scratchy surface. I really hurt it when I jumped off earlier. Josh moves his friend and himself back as I make it to the ledge. Josh's hand remains firm on the other's mouth, but they don't seem to mind. I want to move closer to Josh, but his friend is right there as well. Josh must sense my conflict for he releases his friend and comes to my side, wrapping his arms around me. Funny how we just met and we get along so well. Not to mention he's a human and I'm, well me.  What if we were... no, impossible.

"Do you know a mermaid that has blond hair, blue eyes, and a green tail... I can't remember his name..."

I look to Josh's friend, Simon I believe is what he called him. I tilt my head in confusion, there's a lot of mermaids with that description. If he's seen a mermaid that could mean...

"Was there blue on the tail as well?"

He nods frantically, eyes lighting up with what I think is hope. I nod my head sadly. He is describing Cal. Most mermaids know about Cal due to an accident a few years ago.

"I know him... His name is Cal."

Josh's arms tighten around me as if he can sense my sadness. I can feel the tears well up in my eyes. Simon sees the tears and his face instantly softens to concern.

"Hey. What's wrong?"

I sniffle a bit and nuzzle into Josh more.

"You were the one he kissed... Weren't you?"

A look of shock crosses his face before morphing into guilt.

"Yeah... What happened?"

"Someone saw him."

"So?"

I groan and bury my face into my hands. I really shouldn't be telling them this. In fact, I should probably be heading home, I'm in enough trouble as it is. If they come looking for me and see me snuggling with Josh... I'll end up like Cal.

"Star? It's okay."

"Star?"

"Mmhmm.You're my star."

"Not to break up the moment, but what happened to my mermaid?"

I turn to Simon and sigh heavily, tears again pricking at the corners of my eyes.

"He's gone... Being seen by humans is forbidden. He's been exiled."
