A/N: Sorry this is so late:( I have been just SWAMPED with school and work. Since I'm writing these fresh, they will be taking a little longer to come out. Even though there are very few left. I am not sure how many more chapters this will have. But it will be coming to a close soon.
"I like your family," I said, looking over at Vito as he drove.
"Well wait til you meet my dad..." He said, "I'm going to make this quick. I don't want you there longer than you have to be."
Hearing that made me wonder.
How was his childhood with his father? Did he have a good relationship with him? Why didn't he want me meeting him? His brother and sisters, along with his mother, are fantastic people. I cannot understand why his father would be any different.
"Oh. Okay."
"So you should text your aunt and uncle that we might be there early." He said, looking straight ahead.
I debated in my mind about whether or not to ask about his dad, though, he might not want to say anything.
"You seem worried." I spoke.
"Because I am."
I brought my hand up to his face, gently rubbing it against his cheek. "It'll be okay."
"If it turned out okay then there's something wrong." He said, pulling a hand from the wheel to grab my hand, bringing it to his lips and planting a kiss.
When he let me have my hand back, I pulled out my phone so I could text Kendall.
Daisy: Hey jsyk, Vito and I will be over a lot sooner than expected. We are making a quick stop and then we are on our way over. Should be over by 1ish
Kendall: Alright darling :) we can't wait to meet him!! So excited to see you too. Colt obviously missed you. Lol.
Daisy: I missed you all also:) He's excited to meet you all too... even though I already warned him about the 9 other siblings, not including inlaws hahahaha
Kendall: Ahhh lol. It'll be overwhelming at first, but once he warms up to us then it'll be smooth sailing. As you know how family gatherings usually work.
Daisy: Yeahhh
I heard a sigh, "We're here." Vito said.
"What could happen?"
"A lot." He said, shifting into park and turning off the car.
Before I unbuckled, my mind suddenly switched into depressed mode when realization hit.
Yesterday was my first birthday without my dad. And this is my first Thanksgiving without him also.
I felt my heart pound in my chest and my eyes began to water, but I forced them shut, hoping to hold back the tears. My ears rang, I felt my throat knot.
Get over it. I told myself. You have to get used to th-
"Honey? What's wrong?"
I burst into tears, my chest heaving. "I miss him so much."
"Aw, darling," Vito said, getting out of the car and coming over to my side, opening the door, "Come here."
I unbuckled, stepping out of the car to be pulled into his warm grasp. He held me close, my face laid on his chest, my tears soaking the beige sweater he was wearing over his shirt and tie. We stood like that for a good five minutes.
