Chapter V - Impertinent

[The Coffee Lounge, Central London, 2:23 pm, M 02/09/16]

DAN: (breathless from running to café) "Hi."

PHIL: (bright smile) "Hi, Dan."

RHIA: (looking away, frowning) "Hi."

PHIL: "Why are you so out of breath?"

DAN: "I ran here. I thought I was going to be late."

PHIL: "You are late," (checks phone) "Three minutes off."

DAN: (leans closer to Phil, cups his hand around own mouth, whispers into Phil's ear) "That can stay our little secret."

PHIL: (shivers, whispers back) "Ok."

RHIA: (clears throat) "I'm still here."

DAN: (mumbles) "Unfortunately." (takes phil's apron, starts putting it on himself) "Right, well, work time."

ETHAN: (enters café, looks at Dan confused) "Did you run here? I was going to give you a lift."

DAN: "You were taking too long."

ETHAN: "Since when do you care about being on time?"

DAN: (tries to subtly glance at Phil) "I got a warning for being late too many times in a row."

ETHAN: (follows Dan's line of vision, tries not to laugh) "Oh, okay." (to Phil and Rhia) "Hey, guys."

RHIA: (smiles) "Hi."

PHIL: "Hi, Ethan."

RHIA: "Actually, I was just leaving. I'm babysitting my neighbour's twins today."

DAN: (smirks) "Have fun with that."

RHIA: "I will actually." (turns to Phil and Ethan) "They're actually so cute. I'll send some pictures on the group chat." (leaving) "Bye."

DAN: "Oh, thank God, she's gone. Fucking bitch."

PHIL: "What happened?"

DAN: "She doesn't reply to my texts anymore."

PHIL: (frowns) "Oh."

ETHAN: "Well, since I came here looking for you, you might as well get me a coffee. Phil, do you want to join me? I'm sure Dan can give you a free cupcake. Right, Dan?"

DAN: (sighs) "Fuck's sake."

PHIL: (takes that as confirmation) "Yeah, can you get me the chocolate and toffee one." (enjoying being served by Dan) "A hot chocolate would be nice, too."
