Chapter VI - Problematic

[Phone Call between Phil and Ethan, W 07/09/16 1:24 am]

ETHAN: (panicked, slightly breathless) "Phil, oh my God, I didn't think you'd actually pick up."

PHIL: "What's wrong?"

ETHAN: "Look, I'm so sorry, I know how late it is." (voice cracks) "Were you asleep?"

PHIL: (sits up in bed) "Yeah, yeah, I was. But it's fine. What's wrong?"

ETHAN: "I mean, I'm just so-" (voice cracks, lets out a single sob) "I'm really worried."

PHIL: (gets out of bed, puts on a shirt) "Hey, Ethan, take a few deep breaths. Then tell me what's up."

ETHAN: "Ok, ok." (follows advice) "It's Dan."

PHIL: (moving with more urgency now, slips on rest of clothes) "Ok. What's wrong with Dan?"

ETHAN: "Yesterday, he told me he was going clubbing with Joe tonight. I called him to- to check on him. He didn't answer. So, I called Joe. He said he hasn't seen him at all today."

PHIL: "Where are you."

ETHAN: "Train station. I just arrived in Newcastle. I'm visiting family."

PHIL: (realises the severity of the situation) "Oh God."

ETHAN: "I've called the home phone, and no answer. I asked our neighbours to check and they said there's nobody in our flat. I've called a guy who works at the club he usually goes to, and he said he hasn't seen Dan since last Friday."

PHIL: "What about the new club?"

ETHAN: (becomes hopeful) "What new club?"

PHIL: "A new one just opened a little way from here. He told Luke he would be going."

ETHAN: (sighs in relief) "Do you think he'd be there."

PHIL: "Well, I'm going to check."

ETHAN: "Phil, I can't thank you enough for this. I owe you."

PHIL: "Don't worry about it. I'll call you back, ok? Don't stress. I'll find him."

ETHAN: "Ok, bye."

[Club Parallel, Central London, W 07/09/16 1:38 am]

PHIL: (walks up to bartender) "Hi. Um- has a guy with brown hair and brown eyes been here recently?"

BARTENDER: (shrugs) "Probably."

PHIL: "Um, he's quite tall."

BARTENDER: (shrugs again) "Probably."

PHIL: "Um, he's missing. I need to know if he's been here."

BARTENDER: "I dunno. I don't really make a mental note of everyone who asks for a drink. Now move out the way, I'm trying to do my job."
