Chapter Twenty Three; Protect Eve of Greed

My deep slumber was interrupted by a force shaking against my shoulder as a voice spoke out my name that could only belong to my sort of brother who always liked to wake me at the earliest of times.

I groaned trying to swat him in the face before turning to lay on my other side so my back was the only thing his eyes could stare upon at this early in the morning, "Aliena do you know where Kuro is?" another groan escaped my thin chapped lips before finally standing as my feet softly padded on the ground towards the hall doors assuming this to be the only hiding place for the black cat, which I was correct.

My hands found way to rub at my eyes harshly in hopes to wake myself, once a minute passed of doing that my hand finally reached out to grab a hold of the small cat's scruff as I placed him on top of my other arm that laid directly atop my stomach to cradle him close to me.

A ring of an annoying cellular device as I assumed it to belong to the simple boy who I called out for them to stop the ringing of the device, in an instant he whooshed past me and his Servamp to answer it.

After a few minutes of a loud booming voice of worry coming through the phone and Mahiru's responses it finally came clear to me once a few certain words left the simple boy's lips, something was wrong with Licht, I received all the information I needed as I ran to a window and opened it, dropping Kuro on to the wooden flooring before taking out the Bobby pin in my hair.

Mahiru sent a look of curiosity my way as he seemed to finally finish the call, "I'll head out and find Licht, please find us as soon as possible." my hand began to clench around the arrow shaped Bobby pin hating to abuse its powers like this before swiping in the air and jumping out of the window where I began to easily glide through the sky, my eyes glancing for any familiar angel wings.

What felt like an eternity of flying had passed until my eyes landed on a strange looking pair easily recognizing this to be the fight of Licht and subclass Higan, my eyes grew in fear recognizing the old man but in my thoughts I knew what had to be done.

I glided down smoothly already seeing that it seemed the pianist was losing the fight with all the blood painted across his body, the only words I could hear uttered before making an attack were "you can't win against this old man alone." before my foot had made contact with the man's cheek harshly.

Once sending that kick I bounced myself away to stand in front of him, removing a retractable knife out of the pocket of my skinny jeans as I held it in front of me, the hole of where the blade would pop out pointing in Higan's direction as I spoke "well good thing he's not alone." a low growl emitted from my throat before flipping the blade out.

I could feel the intense stare of the vicious blue-gray orbs across my back seeing as an apparent 'she demon' was protecting him, my feet sprinted off towards Higan as I tried swooping down to get a scratch at his hip but he easily dodged it with no problem as a small scratch came to my arm and in seconds the non apparent wound on my arm was set ablaze.

Never in my vampire life had I really gotten to experience the true pain of his attack thinking he was truly weak but that was not in the case in my Eve life, my arm was scorching as layers of skin felt as though it was being melted off as the pain surged throughout my entire body.

A facial expression of pain came across my face but that was all I would give him, the protection of Licht was more important than this useless Eve's health, another attempted slice was sent his way but he acted as though he received no injury from my blade.

"There's no way you can defeat me with such ways." I gave out a growl towards him, my hand clenching around the handle of the knife already knowing his words to be true, without using my powers as an Eve I truly had no way to defeat him but maybe if there's enough distraction Licht could run away.

My head swiveled towards his direction seeing him still standing without making any attempt at movement except to cover his scorched and scratched arm, as he glanced up at me a small smile came across my face watching that angered expression reach his face despite that pain.

After not making any movement Higan sent many strikes my way which I took head on, only moving my body when he sent me flying back with such force "Licht go!" I shouted at him in a desperate plea as the horrible flames sent pain throughout my whole body as he was able to get a scratch all along my body, a look of shock came across the black haired boy's face but then quickly disappeared into one of anger.

"My original goal was to take Licht-kun but I suppose there will be no rule against taking two." another rush of anger flowed throughout my veins imagining him sending any harm to the Eve I swore to protect, not only from his Servamp but anyone willing to send unbearable pain his way.

A flash at the speed I was at ran by Higan but he seemed to have been able to grab my arm harshly before any swipe of a knife could be sent to his frail skin, the anger was replaced by fear searching through his facial expression resulting in me trying to gulp down any sense of fear that might grow apparent on my face.

He sighed in a devilish way before beginning to speak, "It can't be helped if you resist." both his glove covered hands erupted into a red flame, even the one holding tightly to my wrist making me try to cower back in pain but his hold was too strong to bring myself away from, "let's dance, Campanella" then a tornado of fire surrounded all three of us as a horrid scream of pain escaped my lips.

Slowly my vision began to darken, still managing to see due to the bright light of fire just so I could see Licht trying to jump into action to save me but this was just causing more pain to himself, the grip around my wrist disappeared as I pulled it close to my chest to try and massage the pain away with my other hand.

The light blue-gray orbs that belong to me glanced towards where my hearing could lead me just in time to see Licht trying to protect me yet again, another growl escaped my thin lips as I ran up and shoved him back as nicely as I could with my forearm but at the same time keeping it harsh enough to cause him to stop.

"I said go.." I muttered in disappointment towards the boy behind me, my whole body now being placed in front of him to guard off any attack that Higan may try to send our way during this break, of course my small body was not tall enough to protect all of Licht but it got to the point I was trying to make, I'll sacrifice my well-being to protect his.

The collar of my shirt was picked up by rough glove-covered hands belonging to the red head fire demon, my legs gave out weak futile kicks his way knowing that at this current moment my strength was no match for his unless I relied on the powers given to me.

No Aliena, you can beat him without those powers. Do you really want Licht to see the weak girl you are? Do you want Higan to know you can't even protect yourself without those powers let alone the people you care for?

My hands enveloped the hilt of another knife as I had dropped the previous one just as I was about to yank it out of my pocket and make a stab towards the old man's face a loud set of footsteps came to the scene.

"Let go of Aliena!" in an instant my body became a stiff board of wood, the knife leaving the hand hugging it as it clattered to the floor, all the anxiousness I once had coming back to strike me in this battle after he decided to join in.
