Chapter 3: Nice my ass.
“Someone’s happy!” Danni exclaimed grinning at me.
I blushed, my smile growing wider. It had been two days since my encounter with Aaron and Josh. Aaron sat with me for the last two days in English and he even acknowledged me whenever he was with his friends. That definitely was something to be happy about. Right now we were in cafeteria at our usual table and I couldn't help but look at the table where the populars were seated.
“I can’t believe he talks to me in front of everyone. I mean they both are so different,” I said, my eyes wandering to the two boys.
I chuckled at the scene in front of me. Josh and Cody were slapping their hands on the table, laughing hysterically at the blonde beside them, Diana, who had spilled her drink on Aaron’s pant. It was funny how panicked she looked trying to wipe the stains which were near his area. Aaron looked like he was trying his best to keep his composure, by the way his jaw was clenched and the way his hands waved keeping her hands from reaching his thigh. I heard Danni and Jess laugh at them.
“I wish I could have one of them,” said Jess, her eyes still on their table.
“I wish I could have Aaron,” I said as I watched Aaron get up smacking Cody and Josh on their heads and proceed towards the exit, which was in our direction. I sat up straight. When he passed our table he gave me small smile and I returned it.
“I wish I could have Cody.”
What? My attention snapped to a dreamy looking Danni staring at Cody who was whispering in Josh’s ear. His eyes were on the other side of the room but I didn't miss the slight nod he gave in our direction.
“What?” Jess and I spoke at the same time. Danni looked like a deer caught in headlights.
“Uh- what?” Danni avoided our gaze and frantically chewed on her food. It was surprising for us because she hardly ever talked about boys. She was very shy. Even more than me. I had known her since third grade so I was sure I could tell what was on her mind by just looking at her face. But I was proved wrong. She liked Cody? How did I not know about this?
“You like Cody?” Jess asked furrowing her eyebrows looking at Danni then at Cody. Her eyes widened turning her head to us.
“Oh my god. They are staring. They are staring. They are staring,” Jess muttered.
“We need to go. Now.” Danni got up emptying her tray, followed by us.
I gazed at Josh. Sure they both were staring at us but I acted as if I hadn't glanced their way.
“Audrey!” a voice called from behind us. That voice sounded familiar. I shook my head and focused on Danni.
Once out, I fake glared at Danni and said, “My best friend finally likes someone, someone who’s IQ is minus 10 to that compared of a monkey’s, and I don’t know about it?”
Danni glanced at me wide eyed, guilt evident on her face.
“Yeah. Him? You like him?” Jess asked.
“Audrey!” This time the voice came louder. Who was this person yelling in the hallway?
“I- no! I don’t like him. But you talk like he is-he is...” Danni stuttered.
“Okayy. He’s the most handsomest and intelligent guy on this planet. Happy?” I laughed as my friend’s face turned red. “But really Danni! I’m so happy that your first crush-“
