Chapter 23: Deja vu

"Annabel, what is it? What's wrong?"

What was I thinking? I had to be stupid to call him at this hour because I was feeling depressed. When his voice reached my ears again, I panicked not knowing what to say and hung up. Was I really going to talk to him about the fight between Jake and Beth? He'd think I am weird, crying to him about my family problems. Good gosh, couldn't I have come up with a lie or something instead of hanging up like that? Knowing Josh he would pester me tomorrow to tell him why I had called.

Groaning I threw away the phone beside me and stared at the ceiling. My cell phone rang but I let it ring when I checked the the caller ID. Josh called me again but I ignored it, hoping he would stop but seconds later my phone vibrated indicating I had received a text message.

From: Josh

If you don't want me at your window right now, I suggest you pick up the call.

Rolling my eyes, I let my phone fall on my chest. He was bluffing. He had better things to do than show up at my window at eleven. Not bothering to reply, I got up from my bed and picking out my night clothes I went to shower.

Fifteen minutes later I was dressed in my pyjamas and a mickey mouse T-shirt, ready to go to bed when a vibrating sound made me sigh from frustration. My eyes widened as I read yet another text from Josh.

From: Josh

In my car right now, driving to your place.

He wouldn't! Oh yes he would, my mind contradicted. Josh was a person who acted on impulse, without giving any thoughts about the consequences. So why did it surprise me so much when he said he's coming over? Or he was probably playing with me.

Narrowing my eyes, I started to type in a  message but stopped when I heard my name being called. My head snapped to the window taking in Josh's face contorted in pain, as he held on to his dear life hanging by my window sill.

My hands flew to my cheeks, not believing he was really here right, in my room. Well, almost.

This guy was legit crazy, I thought as I continued to stare at him still in a shocked state while he tried to haul himself over the ledge. His face was red and his muscles strained from the effort. My eyes lingered little more than necessary on his muscles that bulged out of his thin navy blue shirt.

"A little help would be appreciated," Josh whispered loudly sounding annoyed that I just stood there frozen. Flustered at the train of my thoughts, I ran to him scolding myself for acting stupid. Thank the lord he didn't notice me checking him out or he would never let me live that down.

"Are you out of your mind, you idiot! Why are you even here?! Dumbass! One big dumbass you are!" I babbled, hovering around him shifting my weight from one feet to another, making no attempt to help him.

Josh opened his mouth to snap at me but I held up my hand. "Don't come inside! I'll meet you down... go down!"

He looked at me like I had grown another head before exhaling loudly and sliding down the pipe beside my window.

Grabbing my phone I tip toed down the stairs, careful not to wake up Beth who was now sound asleep on the couch. Closing the door behind me I turned into the darkness and shivered, instantly hit by gush of wind. Josh appeared beside me wearing that stupid smile on his face. He turned his chin towards the empty street receiving a deadpanned expression from me.

"A walk? Really?"

"Really. Now come on." He grabbed my arm, tugging me forwards.

I gave in knowing there was no use trying to fight him. His let his hand fall to his side before pocketing them both and turned his head to look at me. I kept my head down letting my hair cover my face to avoid his eyes and his questions but it was difficult knowing that he was staring at me. The cold wind nipped at our faces and I shivered, regretting not bringing a coat with me.
