Pretty shortly after our run in with Adam, Cameron and I part ways. We exchange numbers first, so he can "reach me whenever and wherever."
It still hasn't sunk in that I am now dating Cameron, or fake dating him I guess you could say, but after seeing Adam's reaction, I have no regrets.
Days pass and I spend most of my time in the library doing homework and studying for tests. I take my schoolwork very seriously; I kind of have to if I want to stay on my pre-vet track. I would study in the room, but every time I do, Hailie decides it's the perfect moment to tell me every thought that comes in to her brain. After our two hour conversation yesterday about how her horoscope told her something big was going to happen in her life, I decided I needed to just finish my homework in the library from now on.
I was just about to finish my essay on the social construction of gender when my phone tings loudly, causing the students around me to glare at me. I sheepishly smile at them and silence my phone before checking it. I hardly ever get texts. It's usually Hailie or occasionally my parents deciding that they should check in so I'm surprised to see Cameron's name pop up on my phone.
I unlock my phone and open the text.
Cameron: We're going to a party tomorrow night. Wear something hot and tight.
I roll my eyes. I definitely do not consider myself to be a party person and am already dreading going. I'm about to respond, but another message from him pops up.
Cameron: Or don't wear anything at all, whatever makes you more comfortable.
It takes a lot for me to bite my tongue and not say the snarky comment I'm dying to say, but I decide to go with a more civil approach.
Avery: Where's the party?
Cameron: Brown Hall, room 506. Be there at 10.
Avery: Sir, yes sir.
Cameron: I like it when you talk military to me, very commanding. ;)
Avery: Goodbye, Cameron.
This party sounds like the worst idea to me, but I don't think I can persuade Cameron to change his mind and stay in and watch movies all night instead. All I know is if I'm being forced to go to a party, I am going to wear what I want and that's final.
---
"Oh no, you are not wearing that" Hailie gasps in pure horror. It's the night of the party and I told Hailie where I was going and that she should come. I've been hoping that I would get a text from Cameron saying he changed his mind, but it never came.
"Why, what's wrong with what I'm wearing?" I ask defensively, looking down at my outfit. I thought it was pretty cute.
"Avery, who wears a sweatshirt to a party?" Hailie asks in disgust.
"Hey, it's not just a sweatshirt! It's a Panic! At The Disco sweatshirt" I defend. I love PATD and if someone at the party has a problem with my sweatshirt then they're definitely not someone I want to have in my life.
I won't let them insult my love, Brendon Urie.
"I'm not letting you go like that, no way," Hailie responds while crossing her arms across her chest. Now I know you have to have cute clothes in here somewhere." Hailie starts to rifle few my closest and after a few minutes, she comes out, looking a little exhausted from the hunt in my closest and throws some clothes at me. "Put these on."
I walk into the bathroom and put on the clothes she picked out for me. It was a maroon top that laced on the chest and showed the slightest bit on skin on my lower stomach and a black front button up skirt. The outfit was cute; it's just not something I typically wear. I only have these clothes because my mother forced me to go shopping with her before coming back to college. When she wasn't looking, I shoved most of the clothes back in my drawers at home; I guess I missed a few.
