Five days.
Cameron had been avoiding me for five days.
And I couldn't blame him.
I knew spying on him was a stupid idea, but I did it anyway.
But to be honest, I don't really regret it because if I didn't followed him, I never would have known that he and my brother are keeping some kind of secret from me, which I know can't be good.
Today is the day of the marine biology trip to the aquarium! I have been looking forward to this trip all semester, but at the moment it seems the only thing I can focus on is why Cameron and Adam would make some kind of secret deal.
Our class was driven to the aquarium early this morning so we could make our scheduled tour.
We are required to go on this tour, but once the tour ends we are given an hour of free time to look at whatever exhibits we choose. Afterwards, we are to meet back for some surprise presentation.
During our tour, I take notes in my binder. I have a feeling we're going to have to write a paper on this trip so I might as well get the information I need.
I look over at Adam to see him texting on his phone the entire time.
Ha, he's not going to do too well on his paper.
Our tour consisted of seeing some of the exhibits and learning more information about the species and how they acts in the wild.
Everything about this place is so fascinating. I don't understand how someone could not like marine biology; it's so amazing.
Our tour lasts about two hours and once it's done our professor tells us we can go to whatever exhibits we want as long as we are back in an hour.
Adam, Tyler and Kevin run off in one direction. Before they leave, I hear them talking about how some hot girl went that way. I roll my eyes; they're disgusting.
I don't really have any friends in this class so I decide to just head off on my own. I don't mind it though. In fact, I actually really enjoy being alone. I'm too mesmerized by the exhibits to want to talk to someone anyways.
Each exhibit is unique and amazing in its own way. The jellyfish tank is absolutely incredible. I can't help but freak out when I see a Turritopsis dohrnii, also known as the immortal jellyfish. They can transform back into the earliest form of their life. How amazing is that?!
All too quickly, the hour is almost up and I have to return to our meeting place. I see most of my classmates gathered where we said to meet. Adam and his friends come right on time smirking triumphantly about how they got that girl's number.
Our professor looks pleased to see that we listened to him and we're all here. He guides us down some hallways and leads us to outside a door marked "employees only."
"Alright class," he begins. "I have a surprise for you. I was given permission to bring you to the shark tanks from above!"
Everyone starts talking excitedly about his news. In the aquarium, above the shark tank there is a platform that you can stand on. It goes around the entire tank. Employees get to stand on it when they feed the sharks. It hovers about twenty feet above the tank and there is a railing on it for safety purposes. I remember going to an aquarium when I was younger and being jealous that I wasn't allowed to be up there.
But today, we're granted access to this and I couldn't be happier.
"Alright settle down," our professor says getting our attention. "We are about to go in, but before we do please line up by alphabetical order in last name."
I stand corrected; I could be happier.
Adam and I stare at each other with identical looks of disgust. Of course this would happen. It's too good to be true that I would get to fully enjoy this opportunity.
Adam and I stand next to each other in line, making sure to leave enough room between us so we don't accidently bump into one another.
Once our class is in order, one by one we walk through the door and up onto the ring of the shark tank.
It's even more amazing than I ever thought it would be.
Below us, sharks swim around in the water, minding their own business as if they don't even notice our presence. It's truly incredible; I get to see them from a different view and perspective.
I'm in awe and can't stop myself from gawking at them when all of a sudden my view is obstructed by blonde hair.
"Adam, move your obnoxious head," I tell him in annoyance.
Adam must have moved in front of me when I was distracted by the sharks.
"No I like this spot more," Adam says stubbornly.
"Too bad, you had your own spot. Get out of mine," I answer angrily.
Adam continues to stand there arrogantly, knowing that he's making me angry. I keep tapping him trying to irritate him enough to get him to move and after a little while, I succeed.
"You want the spot so badly?" Adam asks in annoyance. "Come get it."
Adam grabs my arm forcefully, catching my by surprise. I struggle to keep my balance as I'm pulled forward. I'm pulled forward with so much force that I ram into the railing. The railing goes up to my waist, but since I crash into with so much force, it's enough to send me right over.
My body starts to hurdle down to the water below me. I'm falling fast with my back to the tank and my view towards the ceiling. I can see Adam looking at me with a look of pure horror, which probably mirrors the one on my face.
He's screaming something, but before I can comprehend what he's saying my body slams into the water.
