"sir we are sorry to say that your mother has terminal lung cancer and will not survive through the year."
"it's november."
"i'm aware." the doctor sighed. "we are sorry."
"fuck you," josh said, anger boiling inside. "you're not sorry. she's just another patient to you."
"you're right," the doctor said on his way out. "she is just another patient. we are still sorry for you and will make it our mission to have you and your mother as comfortable as possible until she passes." he walked out.
ten minutes afterwards, josh left and found room 3009 where tyler was sleeping. he had been taken out of his medically induced coma, but he hasn't actually woken up yet. josh sat in tyler's room and cried. josh found comfort in sitting with tyler even though tyler was asleep and had no knowledge of josh's existence.
five hours later, tyler woke up.
